I haven't seen one of these for Kid Icarus: Uprising yet, so I thought I'd make one for it as a place to share opinions on it, boast about that one chapter you beat on a really high intensity or your favourite overpowered weapon and last but not least to get some online matches going with fellow C3ers.

That said, I personally haven't tried out the online portion yet, but that's mainly because I prefer to spend a good amount of time playing the single player mode first (and getting more skilled at the game). I'd still be up for some if any of you guys wanted to though.

If could be turned into a forum for gathering friends/making teams for KIU that'd be cool.

I'm surprised and a little disappointed this thread hasn't generated more activity.

I mean, this is a Nintendo forum and Kid Icarus: Uprising is honestly one of the best games I've played in years across all platforms, let alone Nintendo.

It's utterly fantastic! Wonderful writing and music throughout, not to mention addictive gameplay. Sure it takes a little to get used to but once you're past the controls it's really an amazing game and-
I genuinely believe it belongs in every 3DS owner's library. Any Nintendo fan's library.

It's just that good, I feel like in a single game Kid Icarus has become a Nintendo great.
I really hope it gets sequels, I hope the series becomes a staple.

Aand that's my two extremely positive cents.
Everyone buy this game.

I'm a bit surprised by that, too. Maybe everybody who has it is too busy playing it? Smilie

I beat the game a few hours ago and was pretty much blown away by it. I never expected it turning out this good, especially not when it was first unveiled. I definitely think it's the best, original game on the 3DS so far and an outstanding effort by Nintendo and Sakurai's team. That and it's probably the best rebirth of a dormant videogame franchise I've ever seen.

Even with the main game beaten, there's still SO much to do. Over 300 achievements to unlock, probably a near infinite amount of possible weapons to obtain/fuse, lots of power-ups to obtain, replaying chapters on higher intensity, online multiplayer etc. I'll be playing this for a loong time.

I played a few hours of multiplayer so far (only Free-for-All though) and it's a blast. Didn't notice any lag or other difficulties and the action is just insane. All the possible power-up combinations and weapons with added items make for some crazy fights. Smilie We definitely have to get some C3 matches going at some point as more than enough members own the game now.

I've played a few matches of FfA and quite a few matches of Light Vs Dark
I never recall having lag in any match I've played! And my connection here sucks!

I'm having horrible difficulties getting into the game, due to the awful controls. I couldn't get used to them to save my life. Playing it yesterday for 45 minutes and my hands were all sore just from holding the 3DS.

Since I suck at this, you probably will never see me playing it online.

I'm always ready for a round of RAID in RE:Revelations though Smilie.

I didn't find the controls 'awful' at all. Yeah, hard to get used to and awkward definitely, but now that I'm used to them I don't see them working this way any other way, with another control stick aiming wouldn't be quick or precise enough.

So.. while I guess the control's are the game's main/only real flaw, they're still good once you get used to them imo.

I've been playing it for a couple of hours today without a break except for lunch and my hand is just fine. I could recommend you trying the way I find myself playing the game fairly often to avoid your hand getting tired (epic description incoming). Basically, I'm sitting sideways on my couch and have my 3DS on my right thigh just enough so that the weight is taken off my left hand that would normally be holding the 3DS but now it's only using the circle pad and L button while the 3DS pretty much rests on my thigh.

As for other control issues, have you tried playing around with the control settings? There are a lot of things you can fine-tune, like the speed of the reticle, for how long the reticle or camera keep moving after you stopped moving your stylus etc.

Other than that, dash (charged) shots and dashes in general are your best friend on the ground as it saves you a lot of camera 'flicking' that might leave you vulnerable to attacks.

Hope this is of any help to you. It would be a shame if you aren't able to enjoy an otherwise fantastic game because of that.

I'm up for some Icarus matches & RE Raids. Feel free to add me to your friends list, my 3DS FC is in my sig. Make sure to send me yours.

I know all the fine tuning possible, thanks. But even then, I still can't beat something like chapter 5 at any difficulty level above 3, I get my ass kicked because I can't dodge anything and the time it takes me to constantly reposition the camera in the right direction, I've been hit once or twice already.

Even after tweaking the options, I still can't control Pit like I'd want to. The air sections are fine, I have no problems with controls there. But the land battles are awful. I wish you could control the camera with the Y&A buttons while still being able to aim with the touch screen, but you can't. That would make navigating on foot so much easier in my eyes.

It shouldn't matter how I'm sitting, a portable game should be perfectly playable anywhere I am playing it and should require me lying on something or adopting I dunno what other position.

Where I'm sitting hasn't mattered to me anyway, I've been able to play KI completely comfortably in any position.

I think it just takes more getting used to for some than it does others, I really hope you can get the hang of it because the final package is incredible.

I have no other problem with the game. everything else is ace, it's just the controls that I have a problem with.

Cubed3 Limited Staff :: Review and Feature Writer

Hm...are you stopping to move the camera? I always strafe and move the camera while always being ready to dash to dodge any attacks. If attacks are coming from behind me or anywhere I can't see them from, I just keep doing short dashes instead of running and those automatically trigger a dodge when I would get hit.

Speaking of that, have you tried practising dodging with one or two stationary enemies that fire at you every few seconds? I had some problems at first as well before I got used to the timing for it, which is pretty much dashing in any direction just before an attack is going to hit you. After that though, it's become second nature to me.

Rudy is right, you shouldn't have to play it in specific positions. The controls are a major turn-off for me, It's one of the most important aspects to a game. If you can't play it, then it's kind of pointless. I can listen to all the amazing music and watch the cutscenes on the internet.

Nintendo seriously need to get a demo out, so I can have a go. There's no way I'm buying it till Ive

Just to clarify, my suggestion was specifically for tired hands. Smilie You can play it the normal way just fine but then it's just a matter of how long your hand lasts, which varies a lot from person to person. I'm fine playing it for a few hours like that, but some others aren't.

That's one aspect that really can't be helped, so I'm hoping that the in-game tips in my previous post are going to help Rudy out as you're basically dead meat on intensity 3.0+ if you ever stop moving or don't keep dodging.

A demo really needs to come out ASAP. You're very likely not the only one holding off because of not being able to try the controls first.

I'm finding the game to be amazing atm. Aside from the controls which aren't that bad when you get the hang of them, the games full of content and a really interesting story. I've managed to play a bit of online as well and it's pretty hectic.

Well, thanks to a deal Mush posted from Zavvi, looks like I'll be hopping onto the Icarus bandwagon when it arrives. Heard a rediculous number of good things about it, and I'm a sucker for cheesy witty 4th-wall-breaking banter in games. ^^

Anyone make use of the stand here? Haven't seen it mentioned, and I've had the idea of replacing my charging cradle with it.

Awesome, Phoenixus! Smilie On your question, nope I never used the stand even once as I have no problem playing the game normally and if I really need to relieve my hand once in a while, I have another much less cumbersome method.

So has anyone actually brought either Goddess as close as possible with Heart Offerings & how many hearts does it take/what does it do. I know it says flat out there's no reward in doing this...but the part where he says "It brings the Goddess closer" keeps sounding like there's more to it than just having her walk up to the screen.

Got the game yesterday (had to hike to the Post Office Depot to pick it up, damn gits >.<). Gotta say, I'm beginning to agree with everything Supes said about it. The 3D is easily some of the best I've seen on the system yet (especially with Pandora's level, holy shit!), the character speech and cheesiness is simply a joy to hear and in no way an irritation like I feared it would be, and the sheer amount of weapons and things to do in the game kinda feels overwhelming. Smilie

Controls were definitely a learning curve though. Might just be my big hands, as the air battles are a piece of cake to control, but the land battles decidedly less so. I'm getting the hang of it now though. ^^

I gave up on it, I was never going to enjoy the game, so exchanged it for CEX vouchers.

So, I got to try this out today. I met up with a friend and he brought it with him. I only played the first level (both the air section and ground) and I have to say, I got a surprise!

First of all, I'm left-handed, so I have to use the buttons to move Pit. Because of this, I found it awkward in the flying section and he moved around stiffly, especially since it was hard to do diagonals. The bigger surprise though was that the ground section controls were far better than I expected! I found it easier to control than the flying section. I could easily see myself getting used to them, though I was playing on an easy difficulty just to try them out. Still, it was enough to convince me to buy it and that's what I've done.

Really glad you're enjoying it! I need to play it more but I always set it to the highest difficulty setting and then get annoyed when I suck at it (it's really hard ok)

If you're left handed you can use the Circle Pad Pro (if you have one).

PS. to date I have never once felt the need to use the stand despite my large play sessions (my gameplay time is over 30 hours), idek how it feels to use.

I'll mostly just be using the stand for Colors 3D.

Shame this thread isn't getting more love, finished the game the other day and it is easily one of the best handheld games I've played in quite a while. The dialogue is ironically my favourite part of the game, the banter and the cheesiness is second to none. ^^

...well, I say finished, but there's so much content it easily rivals Smash Bros Brawl, its kinda ridiculous really. Smilie

Wonder if Sakurai could work his magic again on the series after he finishes the next Smash game. Smilie
