    Nintendo, you're killing me!

on 13.10.2011 at 21:56 Number of Comments Comments: 16

I've always been a Nintendo fan more than anything else, even despite owning all other systems and loving them greatly. However, Nintendo is really good at giving me gray hairs. D: They always come out with something absolutely wild, and sometimes they don't end up that bad. But I'm having so many doubts about this Expansion Slide Pad! Especially with the rumors claiming that a new exclusive 3DS will be revealed having the extra analog.

I recently got my issue of Game Informer and starting reading the news about how the 3DS is doing. I bought it brand new, and this price cut was such a heavy crush to my heart. What sounded even worse to me was that "the move sparked a drop in the company's stock price, a pay cut for Nintendo president and CEO Satoru Iwata and other executives..." All I can say is: Wow. I regret selling my DSi XL. Sure I own Ocarina of Time and who knows if Majora's Mask will ever go through (I even signed the petition), but I'm at the point of selling this cursed thing! I miss the little features that the DSi had that the 3DS got rid of! :/

As it says in the article, wasn't the fact that this new handheld played in 3D suppose to be the selling point? And if they really sell this rumored 3DS, will the price remain the same or just go back up to original pricing it started with? I mean, sure there's some great games coming out, but why aren't there some out even now? I mean, I waited FOREVER for Twilight Princess to come out on Gamecube: from when they announced it in High School til it's release during my college years ALONGSIDE the debut for the Wii. Great, now I had to get a new system too (good thing it played my GC games). Now how long has the Wii been out for this next Zelda installment? I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out WITH the Wii U as well!

Sorry, I'm just on a rant here. Nintendo you're breaking my heart. I have more to say, but I think I'll shut up now. ;3

The feelings of an early adopter. You're not the only one who feels like that. Did you hear about the ambassador program though? For early buyers of the 3DS you get 10 free NES and 10 free GBA games. The NES games you can get now, the GBA ones are still coming I think. Not much of a consolation, but it's something.

I've learnt not to really buy systems at launch now, because most of the time they're overpriced, and especially in Nintendo's case a remodelled version comes along not long later. I only gave in with the 3DS when it price crashed. No games, but bought it purely because it was a bargain.

I'm not bothered about the 3DS slide pad though. Is it going to be that much of a big deal? I guess we'll see down the line how much of a necessity it is in bigger games like Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, etc. I do agree that Nintendo have pure shat over their customers in more ways than one though, and feel for you after paying so much for it.

As for Zelda, it's guaranteed that Skyward Sword will only be on Wii, and Nintendo have said that themselves. The only way I can see SS being ported as a Wii U game would be if sales bomb. But I highly doubt it, and besides, would it even be worth porting it over if it's just exactly the same game? Wii U plays Wii games, so no biggie.

Plus, we only really get at most two Zelda games per console, and the wait seems to get bigger and bigger after each instalment. Very frustrating for fans, but this is how it is with Zelda, and has been for a while now. I think they'll just learn to space handheld Zeldas out in between the console games so it doesn't seem as bad.

I can guarantee you that a remodeled 3DS with a second analogue stick won't be showing up anytime soon. Ever since the price cut the 3DS has been selling really well, especially in Japan. Don't expect a 3DS hardware update until late 2012 - 2013. Plus all the sexy games start getting released from November onward so the situation is not as bad as it seems.

Heed L's words, Lina! Does remind me that some really good titles are coming, like Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Luigi's Mansion 2. Plenty of others, I'm sure.

I don't think I've managed to play any online games with you yet, have I? Mario Kart could finally be that chance. Plus, we'll likely be having tournaments here with the guys from Cubed3, so you don't wanna miss out on the fun ;]

I totally agree with L, I doubt that Nintendo will release a redesigned 3DS for another year or 2. Even if they do... I just can't see them adding an extra analogue stick on to it. Unless of course the Slide Pad peripheral becomes a requirement in most games. They'll most likely give the redesign better battery life and stylus placement. Something along those lines.

I still love Nintendo as much as ever and I am completely happy with my 3DS. I was even happier when Nintendo said they would compensate me with 10 free NES games and 10 free GBA games. They didn't need to, I was fine with paying the amount I did for the 3DS.

I've said this a bunch of times already and eh, maybe Nintendo has brainwashed me into loving them. Nintendo has played a big role in my life, when I'm feeling down a Nintendo game like Mario or Kirby never fails to brighten up my day.

How you revive my love for Nintendo by those words. Especially in the "maybe they really have brainwashed me" part. ;3

And yes, Az, I am part of the ambassador program in which I am very grateful to get to play and suck horribly at the original Metroid. I'm actually on my way to fight Ganon in the original Zelda, and I didn't use a guide until the latest dungeon. That game is seriously IMPOSSIBLE. I already had Zelda II on my virtual console for the Wii, but I love the convenience of having it in my handheld. What I'm absolutely looking forward to is Fusion (GBA games come out before the end of the year), even though I've played it on an emulator and own the actual game now. It's a classic I MUST MUST own (again).

Also, I am looking forward to Luigi's Mansion and Metal Gear!! I mean... I guess I felt the need to get my frustration out on Nintendo. I'm just worried that my favorite gaming industry will be going under. ;A; I hope that we all get to play online soon someday. Still want Starfox... D:

Thank you all for your wonderful comments! ;3

That's only true of handhelds. The Wii and Cube didn't get price cuts for ages and also didn't get remodeled.
I do think Nintendo are losing the plot though. There's STILL nothing I want out for the 3DS, although it seems they're gonna release a couple of good uns in time for Chrimbo.

Did indeed imply handhelds when I said remodels, yeah. Consoles still generally overpriced at launch though, for sure. But obviously they go down after hardware becomes cheaper over the years, so usually is best to wait. Depends how much you've got in your pocket and how much you want it too though!

Err, someone please tell me why it's always Nintendo that gets blamed for making revisions of their handhelds. The PSP had just as many as the DS (1000, 2000, 3000 and Go) and one of them sucked balls, so what is it with all that? Just because Nintendo is in the market way longer than Sony and we have more examples of them doing it? I really don't get it. Besides, it's kind of a natural thing for any mobile device.

It's also interesting to see how spoilt many gamers are nowadays. This year was already way better than the launch year of the original DS and now we're getting lots of great games in the next two months and early 2012. For example, New Super Mario Bros came out about 1.5 years after the launch of the DS and here we get Super Mario 3D Land just a bit over half a year later. Same goes for Mario Kart, though the difference there is only 3 months. Same goes for 3rd parties, who didn't start really taking the DS seriously until ~2 years after its launch. I'd say we're pretty good as far as games go, it's a new platform after all and no gaming system ever had a remarkable line-up just in its first year.

Oh and like L said, forget a remodel of the 3DS showing up anytime soon at this point. The 3DS is already selling fairly well and will highly likely have a really good holiday season, so Nintendo isn't going to come out with a revision when the old one is still selling well. Remember, making a revision is a marketing strategy for when the old model starts slowing down and you want to get the sales up again. It'll happen sooner or later but not when the 3DS is still selling well.

You may or may not agree with me but that's just how I feel about the whole thing.

@SirLink - I totally agree with you. Apple comes out with a new iPhone/iPod/iPad revision every year... why haven't people mentioned them?

The PSP also had a bunch of revisions, so I don't see why people are blaming it all on Nintendo. Mobile phone manufacturers do it all the time too. Sure, they add new hardware but is it really necessary for them to release a new phone every few months to a year?

My phone is like 5-6 years old and it was working perfectly until a month ago, when the screen stopped working. I can still recieve calls and make calls if I dial the number. Sometimes the screen decides to work so I can text/read texts.

Hope I've raised a valid point here and I totally agree with SirLink. The 3DS is doing well right now and Nintendo won't release a revision until sales drop dramatically.. which I don't see happening for a while now.

That's because the DS had one of the worst launch periods ever. Ditto the 3DS. It's been out 6 months now (roughly?) and the only game I can see that's worth getting is a remake of a 10 year old title.
I honestly can't see why anyone would have wanted a 3DS up until now, unless there's half a dozen great games I've missed out on?

Yeah, it did but launch periods are rarely ever worth it. Why are people always playing the same game again, where they expect it to be different for a new console? We'll never get a new system and a solid library just over half a year later. That's just how it works. It wasn't like that for the Wii, PS3 or Xbox360 either so why now?

The DS has amassed an extremely varied library of great games over the past years and if you can't see why anyone would have wanted a DS for those, then nobody can help you there. It seems you're either not really interested in a lot of games or just have too high standards. Just curious, which of the already announced 3DS games are you actually interested in and consider worth getting when they come out?

I apologise, it was meant to say 3DS. I bought a DS just a couple of months after launch and have generally been very happy with it. Smilie (That's the problem with having two consoles with a near identical name. :p)

I don't know if that makes your next question somewhat void, but I would be interested in both Mario Kart and Super Mario Land of those coming out in time for Christmas. However, neither of them would convince me to buy the console, as I don't want to pay over £100 for a handheld.

Hah, you really confused me with that one. Smilie I didn't exactly know what to think since that statement theoretically made sense either way.

So you're never going to get a 3DS then? Or are you simply waiting for a barrage of great games to make an exception?

I honestly think the 3DS launch period has been worse than the DS one. Atleast with the DS one, while we got nothing of true substance, we atleast had multiple curiosities like Feel the Magic and WarioWare. Games that while not amazing atleast gave us a taste of the ideas one could have on the system

But on the 3DS there's just utterly nothing, sans a solid remake or two.

That'll change pretty darn rapidly though. I think it has the best holiday blitz of any of the systems this year. So I'm left debating over whether I can wait for the inevitable new model...or do I need Mario Kart ASAP.

I dunno. To be honest, I think it has more to do with my general lack of interest in gaming now than anything specific with the 3DS. I only bought a Wii because my mate was selling and it was a bargain. I might get the remodel when it inevitably comes, who knows?

SirLink! I ♥ your post! People do dis on Nintendo for the most changes, but the PSP also has some bad ones. I really miss my PSP though. I was going to buy the MGS green on (since it's my favorite color and one of my favorite series) but never did. D: Oh well. My lost. ;3
