    new laptop

I've had this laptop for yonks now and I'm hoping to get a new one before this year's Uni term begins.

So really I'd like some simple advice or maybe some suggestions from you guys because I'm hopeless with this stuff.

    - I don't want to build it myself or anything
    - PC not mac
    - I'd like it to run smoothly and have an efficient fan
    - I'd like to say it'll mostly be used to University work but aha nope it'll mostly be used for saving tons of anime and fanart and doujin games
    - Yeah I don't want a ~gaming laptop~ or anything but I want something that runs simple games like Touhou really well/without exploding (because god when I try to play Grief Syndrome or Minecraft I can hear my laptop struggling for air).

I'm currently looking for a new computer myself. I'd say in your case you may just need something a little more up to date. I always liked the laptops Toshiba puts out because they don't break the bank like a high-end Sony Vaio. (Although those are super nice if you have the money to spare.)

Pretty much anything now has a duel core i3 or above... Er... on second thought I won't even start with that! Smilie

If it were me I'd do this,
-Make sure it was released this year

-If you did the above it should be running Windows 7. Good. Vista is Horrible! I once had a fatastic laptop, really high end, and Vista sucked all the speed out of that thing.

-find a certain model I like online and shop around for prices.

Just as an aside, if you are going to be saving a lot of image files, music, or videos it really helps to save them to an external hard drive. The price of memory has dropped so much, a 250 gig external hard drive is dirt cheap. I'd try to save everything to that instead of my laptop. It'll prolong the life of the computer and keep it speedy!

I hope this made sense and helped at least a little! Smilie

P.S. I've never had any luck going the refurbished route, but I'm on good authority that Dell has a good site for that.

Thanks for the advice! I've actually been running Vista all this time and it's been ok so getting 7 should probably make games run better assuming it eats up less CPU.

I actually have a makeshift ext. harddrive but it doesn't work amazingly. I might see if I can get it to work better once my new laptop arrives.

I'd better get looking tho I'm running out of time aha.

I'm like you when it comes to computers SuperLink so I asked for some help from people with some experience in this field and they said make sure you have at least 4gb of ram, over 250gb hard drive and make sure the laptop processor is not made by AMD because apparently they're unreliable.
