Relatively pointless thread, but I thought seeing the range of choices across active C3 members here would be worth a gander. ^^

Scenario: By sheer luck your bank balance is topped up by a Million Pounds/Dollars/Euros etc, and it is completely yours to do with what you wish. Naturally you'd end up either buying a crapload of your favourite things, a new house, holiday, and all that, but what would be the very first acquisition or activity you'd use a portion of that sum on?

Personally, I'd quit my job, get a small weekend position somewhere to keep some earnings coming in (prefer to work personally, couldn't sit at home all day), and go back to college and by extension University for the weekdays.
Oh, and I'd never tell another soul that I'm quids in, absolutely no-one. My family members would just conveniently win competitions they never entered instead. Smilie

What say you C3?

I would buy a few ad-spaces on the internet, and set up a series of "YOU WIN £1,000,000!!!!!" using the most dodgy looking advert ever conceived.

Then I would wait for someone gullible enough for me to send them their credit card details and give them the money.
Bless their li'l heart they probably would have lost all their money on scams so they could do with some to keep them going. :')

(honestly) Would probably use it to get me a little headstart in some sort of career I'd actually like to do, then use the rest to accommodate and support my close friends and family should they ever need it.
I'd probably give some to charity too! But only if I'm done ~lavishing~ my loved ones ok.

Go into early retirement, have a big fancy wedding, buy a house and then live normally. Sounds boring I know but there's nothing else I want.Smilie

Firstly I would give certain friends / family members a little something to say thanks for all the help they'd given me.

Pay of both mine and my girlfriends student loan debt straight away and then start building up filmmaking equipment to get work... along with a holiday!

I'd probably still work but not full time and invest some of it into something. I dunno what though. XP
Or maybe I'll just end up buying an Ostrich.Smilie

First thing I would do is give a vast majority of it away to charity. I really, really dislike money. The few leftover I had would go towards paying loans and other stuff of that nature.

Buy myself a recording studio, a Custom PRS 24 guitar (the guitar of my dreams) - then probably flaunt the rest in expensive bars picking up super-models. Smilie

I'd continue with University, make a few investments in shares, and buy my own bachelor pad, a car, and go after some ladies.

Then with some of it, pay off my parents mortgage.

I would give about 100,000 to my mum. Just to help her out a little, since she's in a pretty crappy situation atm. The rest of it I would use to buy property and maybe travel around the states to meet a few of my closest internet friends.

Then I would just use the leftover cash for living expenses, unless I had a job as well.

The FIRST thing I would spend it on would be alcohol. Not in a "let's get trashed!" kind of way, I'd just want to have a small celebration with some friends/relatives and have a decent time with some good booze. Smilie

I just completed pokemon yellow! 151 pokemon seen and caught.
Surely that's worth a star?

First of all, is this million actually on my bank account, confirmed by the actual bank, or just some people from Nigeria claiming I'll get it?

I've become a bit paranoid after quite a few of those kind of messages, you see.

Seriously though, this is a really hard question.

Maybe the best would be to put it on the bank and automatically transfer to different charities what I get from interest every year. Then after every 5 years or so see which charity invested my money the most to my liking and give that one a bonus of 10.000.

I would help my sister to be able to study what she wants (right wing politicians think only the well off(consistently called 'hard working people' disgustingly enough) or people willing to put themselves into massive debt should be able to, after enjoying the many years of studying under the old policy themselves), but there are so many more like her. It's a problem of policy that I don't think I will be able to fix with a million.

Or save it and make a trip to the moon with my family/friends when I retire/40 years. I'd love that. Just to be outside of our planet. Then go back and have a great time with family and friends like Cheese described.

I was talking about my own country. She now has to pay 5000 euro extra per year to study what she wants. There have also been limitations imposed on the length of studying. Study longer? Pay up hefty fines.
The great thing about it: the politicians responsible for this...one studied for a whopping 11 years, the other 7(amount of time it should take is 4 years).

They should really teach empathy and common sense on universities. Has that been tried yet somewhere?

Thanks for the information on the UK, owners gonna own...
