Nintendo of Europe's senior marketing director recently commented on the casual gaming scene: they don't exist.
Laurent Fischer commented on the casual gaming situation: there are people who play games, and those who don't. That's it. "For me, you are a gamer or non-gamer," he told CVG at Nintendo Germany yesterday. "I think most of you know that you can spend ten or twenty hours on an internet flash game and have not realised. The guy who plays these games regularly - he's a core gamer....
I don't like this word casual so much. Because people consider that casual needs to be something easy. If you're good at any game you can play at a high difficulty level.
There is no casual gaming. There is just a different way to play."

nonePart of me is inclined to agree with him but part of me thinks he's insane. He seems to be thinking way too broad. I go to the cinema a couple of times a year like a casual gamer might buy only a couple of games. I would class myself as a casual film fan. I don't follow film news or worry about seeing them as they come out, exactly like a casual gamer.

There are only those who watch movies, and those who don't". Which is preposterous. Clearly, there are those who watch crap like Pirates of the Caribbean, and then there are those who watch intimate, deep little foreign films with subtitles. He's obviously only made that statement as a reaction to the negative press the Wii gets for casual-gaming.

For example, I consider myself a casual gamer but I play with my Wii every night. I don't play 'casual' type games but I don't play bloodfest games either. I buy plenty of games, keep up with the gaming news (and this web-site), and look forward to new releases, but I have never played a video game for more than two hours at a time.
This guy is BSing but I do agree that I am a gamer, whereas my wife is definitely not.
