More Capcom Wii Support? Okami Selling Less

Posted by By (jb) 14 Number of reads 34804

Capcom Europe recently dropped a small hint of more Wii support to be announced in June.

Whilst discussing sales for Okami on Wii, Capcom's Christian Svensson has revealed that the game has sold less than the PS2 version at this stage of release, "dropping off in an expected pattern. It's only been a couple weeks so I wouldn't expect the drop off to have leveled yet."

Users on the Capcom boards have questioned him into future support for the Wii, and he replied: "as for more support, let's talk in June."

The company will be holding their media summit event towards the end of May, "Captivate08", so it's likely forthcoming Wii projects will be made public after embargoes have been lifted: "To sum up: CAPTIVATE08 Media Summit, coming end of May; all of our news hitting beginning of June."

Thanks to NeoGAF for the tip.

New franchises, ports, or a bunch of shoddy mini-games? What do you feel Capcom will be bringing to the Wii table this year?

Definately advertise the game, appeal to the more hardcore gamers dammit, all the woeful and awful 'party' games get the coverage, not the sublime and excellent games like Okami.

New, well thought out franchises would be nice, ones that offer a challenge and are actually fun, a port of Devil May Cry 4 wouldn't go amiss though, or Street Fighter IV Wii, now there's an idea...Smilie

Companies make games, then try to sell them with little to no advertising. No wonder some third party stuff doesn't sell.

All it takes is effort in production and promotion for some decent sales.

I'm surprised it's not selling well. Surely every hardcore gamer with a Wii and no PS2 version would buy it in an instant?

SuperLink,

Okami Wii is probably suffering a similar fate as Boom Blox. Receiving critical acclaim from online gaming portals but have little to no advertising.

I do not understand why companies that make Wii games believe that they do not have to advertise to the core gamer on the Wii. Yet they advertise their products to the core gamers on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Their attitudes make no sense.

I think it will do OK in Europe, through word of mouth.

Capcom admitted when announcing Okami on Wii they'd have no TV marketing. You'd think they're asking for it...

Exactly.
God, where do some people learn business/PR?

We're going to sell a game that'll rely on word of mouth and standing out in store shelves.

People will walk past and probably ignore it as it's been out on the PS2 - without clear differences with the Wii version and some promotion to get Okami hyped again it'll do worse than it could have.

Then they blame the console, bla bla bla. Crap mini-game mixes etc.

They really need to take the Wii more seriously, and promote, promote, promote!

Is that the same OK that it did on PS2 with word of mouth?

Less posty, more gamey.

I bought my copy of Okami at launch so I'm set. Hopefully word of mouth makes the game sell over 500,000 copies so Capcom releases more original IP for the Wii with the profits from this game.

I'm currently playing Zack & Wiki (only 8 more puzzle to go) and are definetly looking forward to a sequel, and for said sequel they could make it $29.99 and offer extra Puzzle packs at 500 points for 5 puzzles... I'd buy at least an extra 4 different sets of extra puzzle to extend the game. All sound effects and principal graphics would be stored on the Wii disc and the DLC would only have to pull them and place them accordingly on the new backgrounds/leves... make sense to anyone else?

I would have bought it...
but it isnt in shops here yet :-/

Incidently, advertising is EXPENSIVE.
While you sale more games with advertising, it also means you have to sale an extra load more to compansate for the advertising.

Perfect sense.
Zack and Wiki absolutely rocks big time.

Id be more inclined purhapes for an eppisodic set of puzzle packs tied to a story, however.
Zack and Wiki has great humour, but it could make more use of it with a ongoing story.

they didn't say it is doing bad! they said it wasn't selling like it sold on PS2 at first, which is natural since the game is 2.5 or so years old now, they never expected it to sell more than it did on PS2.

simple math guys. Smilie

I concur (sorry, just wanted to say that).

A game such as this would sell far better with the use of advertising, without it, it will fail as bad as... well, as badly as it is already doing. advertise and the monies will flow...

May you be in heaven for half an hour before the devil knows you are dead.
