Nintendo Wii / DS Dominate April 2008 NPD Sales
Recent News
It's been another strong month for both Nintendo DS and Wii, with over a million in combined sales.
According to the NPD Group, which tracks U.S. video game sales, both consoles outweighed the competition, with Nintendo's motion-controlled beast scoring 714,000 units in April alone. The DS flew off the shelves with 414,800 units make their way into gamers' hands and pockets.
Mario's latest karting entry, Mario Kart Wii slide into 2nd best selling game of the month (next to Rockstar's notorious GTA IV), and the plumber's franchise blend, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, passed the 3 million sales mark in the US.
Fantastic news for both the Wii and DS. With continued sales for top-rated games and some third parties creeping into the charts, this certainly seems like the season for both the Wii and DS.

Wii sales were buoyed in part by the strong launch of Mario Kart Wii, which sold more than 1.1 million units. Our belief in appealing to a broad, diverse audience of players continues to resonate with consumers, and we look forward to continuing our outreach to an expanded audience with the launch of Wii Fit next week.

jbcubed3.Brawls sales do seem a little disappointing, but perhaps its because in comparision to Mario Kart, its online focus is a little gimped. I heard of as much Brawl advertising in the States either, it seems Mario Kart had far more push in all regions imo.

Link / SuperLink9Of course. Because it's a casual game and Nintendo don't want to push the sequel to the best selling GC game ever. Well done smart Nintendo.
Also I honestly feel, as far as online GAMEPLAY goes, that Brawl had as much done to it as possible.

No-one's disputing the GAMEPLAY of Brawl's online - it does its job.
But it's online OPTIONS aren't as good as, say, Mario Kart - i.e. proper friend roster functions, ability to send basic chat messages, and even if that wasn't there - a win/loss ranking.

Ah, I thought so. Well I agree with you I guess. Still CoOp contests online and other modes was a first for a Wii game.

IxisNaugus (Ixis will do)good lord, i didn't think Mystery Dungeon would make it. Shows how much i know...
Notice how the 360 version of GTA IV beat our beloved MKWii but the PS3 variant did not... could be just me but...
And in hardware sales its nice to see the Wii did best, with the DS second and 360 "close" behind, leaving SONY's products in 4th and below. I think you can all see where im going with this, once again it could be just me... could be... could be...

noneI was very suprised when I read this.
I thought the sales of the 360 and PS3 would skyrocket with this release... yet they can't even break the 200k barrier?
Shows what I know I guess. Perhaps GTA just isn't a console puller...

noneHas anyone pointed out that Wii Fit is not out yet in the US? That is pretty amazing that a game can sell 360K units when it hasn't even made it to the shelves yet.
Also, why did they put the PSP at the bottom of the list when it sold enough systems to be number 3?( Edited 16.05.2008 18:48 by Robertd1138 )
