High Voltage Software have revealed the first footage from their upcoming Wii Shooter, The Conduit.
Since revealing the project and engine details last month, the studio have crafted a slick trailer packed full of guns, futuristic environments and alien scum. IGN report that the game handles as one would expect, using IR pointing for aiming, a few unique Wii-remote elements and unique alien-detecting tech.
High Voltage are currently seeking a publisher for The Conduit.

Looks quuite strange graphics wise, the backgrounds look almost DS like but some bits look around MP3 quality. I think I'll wait for more information.

Graphics look pretty good, but it's difficult to tell 'cause of the compression. Texturing seems to be good and does polygonage. Overall though it looks much better in motion than it does in screenshots. Of course we also can't tell if the build runs at 60fps or not.
Plus it should have decent controls since they're taking inspiration from MoH2 and MP3. Technically speaking a small bounding box and sensitive turn speed are not difficult to accomplish so I can't see them having trouble with that.
The only real unknown is the story. The whole conspiracy thing could be quite fun, we'll have to see what they do with it, not that I'm expecting anything great from a shooter.
Could be a very very good game on Wii, however. Those promises of third party support with this and Mad World are certainly coming true.

Agreed - does look good, and hopefully it'll handle even better with more development and possible funding from a decent publisher.
Hoping for some solid multiplayer and possible online. C'mon Nintendo, publish 'em already!

I would probably require the resources of a publisher to get the online infrastructure up and running. Though there is the whole \"deathmatch authorized\" which is hopefully a hint.
I actually hope Nintendo don\'t publish it because 1. the Wii needs a symbolic third-party success to lead the way and encourage other to do the same and 2. MoH2 and Blast Works are third party and LACK FRIEND CODES online.
EDIT: Yeah... that was it: the graphics remind me of Half-Life 2 (was playing it yesterday).( Edited 17.05.2008 11:01 by Wiill )

Yay, looking very promising indeed. Although I do advise watching the larger version - the smaller one squashes it a bit too much and makes it look worse.( Edited 17.05.2008 12:17 by RyanT )Source
Conducted with market research firm NPD, the study surveyed 2,611 gamers and determined that lines between casual and hardcore are blurry at best, and gamer demographics are broader than conventional thinking has held. As Big Fish chief strategy officer (CSO) Paul Thelen stated during a Casual Connect keynote, the traditional casual approach of "'one size fits all' doesn't work."

Looks promising, seems to play quickly and smoothly, which I think are the most important aspects of a FPS, and hopefully the controls will be very good.
I hope they get a publisher for this, it's a shame the only original Wii FPS still after 2 years on the market (ie not sequels or ports) is red steel, a release game.
Suppose people will complain that it looks a bit generic, but it's running round shooting aliens, and people seem to be able to overlook that for other games, Half life, halo, gears of war, resistance, when it pleases them. Considering there's hardly any (none?) games like that, which have been developed for the wii, i don't see it as a problem.

I don't think the low-quality video does the game justice. You need a pretty trained eye to see that this game actually looks pretty good.
If it's half as good as the original Half-Life (I make the comparison because that's just how the game strikes me as being influenced by) then it will be the best FPS on Wii.

I think there is a FPS starved market out there for the Wii. There are only a handful of quality FPS's on the market and I believe it would be very smart to get in on this market now.
Surely they can find a publisher. With all the crap that's being shoveled onto the Wii, some company has to be willing to publish what appears to be a promising game.

I think the engine looks pretty good, but the art assets need work, especialy the interiours look very flat in places.
Better burnt in lighting would help.
Hopefully this controlls as good as the fantasic Metroid Corruption.
(which I still thinks the best use of Wii controlls)Darkflames Favorate Games! - Darkflames Favorate Films! - Darkflames Favorate Foods?!

I do like the look of this and the Death match authorized does give a hint yeah fr sure. This is prob what nintendo said about trying to reach out for support like this, and wiiware could be a start for small companies to get their money and becomes bigger to then make games like this. Have you guys seen the work with their wiiware game??
Will be buying both on first day if it keeps up like this.

And what publisher would you reccomend to have the money for online?
It would HAVE to be Nintendo cause I can\'t see EA going for this. (And I can\'t see Nintendo Nintendo bothering with this either but there\'s a better chance of them than EA and plus they\'ll do a better job.)
I doubt there will be any multiplayer (and no chance of online they just won\'t be able to get the money)
I think it\'s running too late for good third-party support for wii especially for FPS. The Wii has become home to Nintendo star games and shitty third-pary party games.

There WAS a market for this game but it probally ran to the x-box, most FPS fans are now on the x-box.
It just pisses me off so much that a console like the wii that had so much potential to be a FPS haven managed to fuck it up somehow.( Edited 17.05.2008 17:19 by Ian The Great )

In what you quoted I have already disproved your point: MoH: Heroes 2 has 32-player lag-free online. It's sans friend-codes and it's good fun. Not great, by any means (mainly for the lack of ranking and so-so design of the multiplayer maps). Who published? EA.
Money is not the issue: clearly High Voltage have already put a lot of capital into the single player campaign, meaning their publisher won't have to. A publisher MAY have to put some resources into online and of course distribution but I don't see it as being such a problem as you suggested. The engine and the assets are already made.
Also, there is a market for FPS's on Wii: Metroid Prime 3 sold over 1 million fairly quickly, and that's despite the fact that there was next to no promotion for it.

Fun? MoH: Heroes is the most boring online I have ever played honestly. But they did do as good a job as possible for their first try.
What? MoH is a big title for EA ,of course they are going to put time and money into the game. Just because they have the assets and the ability to publish the game doesn't mean there going to take it on.
Don't be silly of course it is High Voltage can't be throwing money around they will need the extra help (moneywise) they need to make a profit (or at least break even or build a good fanbase for a sequel).
I'm talking about the hardcore FPS fans have moved to x-box (lets face it x-box crushes the wii in the FPS department). Metroid is a nintendo game most buyers would be fans of the series and not FPS nuts.

Whether you found it boring online (I do not) is subjective, what is important is that they were willing to put that effort in to a Wii game, as you said.
Also, MoH: Heroes is NOT a big title for EA. It is a minor, spin off franchise. It was upgraded for Wii from a PSP project. Ungraded well, but certainly not something they were going to put a lot of effort into.
In other words: online doesn't require that much effort. Majesco have also gone on record to say its easy to make it on Wii. The reason for lack of online is that devs are not just being cheap, but incredibly lazy too. High Voltage are clearly not being lazy.
I would also argue, financially speaking, that they believe they are opening up a market: competition leads to progress when someone raises the bar. This game came about because other projects proved what was possible graphically (MP3) and in gameplay (MoH:H2) while this game attempts to raise the bar on both and create a new market for the stuff, since a fair few 360/PS3 owners have a Wii too, I'll bet.

"It would HAVE to be Nintendo cause I can't see EA going for this. "
a) Why?
And
b) So, you think there is only two publishers in the world :?
===
Also, good online games need good development skills, but it is *not* expensive.
Online just means swapping data, normaly positioning of various objects and players, between a few machines. As the transfere isnt instant, liner-extrapolation techniques have to be used to make the games seem smooth.
None of this is expensive. Its just code. Not much code either.
The tricky bit is getting online to work well, with the lag having the least impact, and a well balanced game.
