Project H.A.M.M.E.R Still in the Works for Wii?
Recent News
Despite the seemingly official confirmation of Project H.A.M.M.E.R's cancellation, could the Wii game still be alive? Late last year, Famitsu magazine confirmed talk of NST's game being canned, yet now the latest issue of UK publication NGamer has cast some doubt on just how 'dead' it actually is.
According to the July edition of NGamer:
But which subsidiary could this be? Has NST been moved onto its new project and another internal Nintendo team is working on what was meant to be an early Wii game, along with Monolith Soft's Disaster: Day of Crisis? Or has NGamer simply been fed incorrect information?
According to the July edition of NGamer:
Nintendo at large says no, but the head of a Nintendo subsidiary says he and his team are still working on it. Believe us, we'll be the first to tell you when H.A.M.M.E.R's back on track.

S.JI'd certainly like to see it come back. It had some potential, that's for sure.

noneIt was just swinging a hammer.
Seemed pretty flimsy concept to me.
Could be a good game, but needs a heck of a lot more before we can say that.
I like diversity in my games.

noneYou always have these concept games floating around nintendo consoles that never appear.
I rememebr when Codemasters announced they'd be brining 4 titles, including Colin McRae Rally 3 to the GameCube, none of which ever actually happened.

WiillThis game always looked very complete in demoes... maybe all the interest in recent mature titles on Wii has made Nintendo decide to reopen this one?

What "Nintendo Magic"? For me everything from twilight princess to Metroid Prime 3 has always fallen below their former very high standards. This notion of the company putting out complete gold whenthey want to is now gone imo.
As for Hammer, no more than a tech demo.

I know you don't agree, but I personally feel Mario Galaxy is stuffed to the brim with "Nintendo magic" I also believe that a select few GC games had it too. I had begun to think there was no such thing until I played Galaxy, and I started to believe that Nintendo could still make incredible games that just gave you this feeling when you played them.

I loved Galaxy and thought it was brilliant, absolutely brilliant. But in terms of the fabled "Nintendo magic" I'd say Galaxy, Pikmin, Wind Waker, Metroid Prime in terms of home console for games that really shone. Games like Twilight princess etc etc are good games, but not the AAA which I'd associate from Nintendo's flagship series. Also games like Mario Kart Wii, the hit and miss nature of aspects of Brawl/Wii Sports/Wii Fit means I just don't get the notion of people thinking some games can be fixed by Nintendo essentially "putting their minds to it".
Regardless of which only CPR will revive Hammer, it's a bit of a forlone hope to think it'll come out. I mean, it has tech demo written all over it, even if it comes out watch it have the depth of a shallow puddle in summer time.

Yeah, I just remembered that you didn't feel ther music was right
don't remember who said they didn't like it... oh well. But in terms of the fabled "Nintendo magic" I'd say Galaxy, Pikmin, Wind Waker, Metroid Prime in terms of home console for games that really shone. I agree on Pikmin & WW. Not Metroid Prime. Maybe that's all it had going for it because I actually slightly enjoyed it compared to the rest of the series, which I found mostly dull. I also agree that TP was a bit dated, but they only gave us what we asked for, a new Zelda that was like OoT.
Also games like Mario Kart Wii, the hit and miss nature of aspects of Brawl/Wii Sports/Wii Fit means I just don't get the notion of people thinking some games can be fixed by Nintendo essentially "putting their minds to it".
I consider Mario Galaxy as the kind of game they put their minds to. The visuals, the music. It all shows that an immense amount of work went into it. They had probably been working on it since GC days. I disagree about Brawl, but I'm a huuuge Smash Bros fan. I also think Wii Sports had a degree of magic, for a short time. I'm sure everyone was a bit smitten with it when they first tried it, but it never lasted long. Wii Fit I can't comment on, but I can't see how it can ever have "Nintendo magic"

Agreed, and regardless or not of it being revived, it really doesn't look like the kind of game Nintendo would bother applying "magic" to. It's clearly not of great importance to them. It reminds me of Bomberman Act Zero in terms of concept really. Generic "Dark 'em up"
Mario Kart Nintendo Magic? Not Wii. Possibly DS, but not Wii. It's great, but it's also so flawed. Mario Kart DS is also seriously flawed (snaking) but it does feel great to play a game like that on your DS.( Edited 17.05.2008 23:16 by SuperLink )

Yeah thats probably true as even though the art style is totally differnt, the character design is similar.
Although, I do really hope this is still being developed.

noneProject HAMMER. That was the demo where you hammer the shit out of everything, no? Deep.
With the whispers of a Galaxy sequel, I bet it'll turn up as a new power up in that. It's got Hammer Bros. 'shroom written all over it.
"You mean you have to use your hands??"

John@C3Well superlink, most of that is just us disagreeing with personal gaming tastes (and for the record I still dislike the music in Galaxy) but it raises a valid question.
Can you define Nintendo magic?
In my eyes they are a company that gets away with murder simply because they are Nintendo. If let's say...Rare release a game that is subpar or at least generic for a flagship title they are slammer relentlessly (see Grabbed by the Ghoulies). Nintendo release a subpar game and it's fine because they "just aren't trying". They release a great game and it's classic Nintendo magic.
