Nnooo may have the answer for Pokémon fans looking for more: an MMO being pitched to the folk at Nintendo.
The developers of WiiWare game Pop are keen on producing a massively multiplayer online game for the Pokémon series, and according to their licences page the company are pitching their ideas.
A Pokémon MMO would involve a huge world for players to roam about in simultaneously, co-operate and complete - being able to see and communicate with real human players.
The company have also drafted up ideas for an online James Bond game and an MMO featuring folk from the X-Men universe.
Would a smaller developer be able to take on such a big project? In any case some fresh ideas from smaller studios could be the inspiration needed to take the series further.
Thanks to C3 reader Echoes221 for the tip.

An MMO is just what the series needs. Probably the best example of a series about that could easily transition into an MMO.
I doubt Nintendo will accept it, however. If it was going to be made, I'd rather Gamefreak did it, but at least somebody is making the effort!

Agreed - Online is a great way to go, if done right. I doubt Nintendo will say yes to Nnoo (lol), but they\'ll most likely have some great ideas that can be taken onboard with such a project, perhaps even working collaboratively with more experienced studios for an awesome Online Pokemon.
The Wii and/or DS are crying out for a one-Pokemon-game-to-rule-them-all kinda thing.( Edited 18.05.2008 22:03 by jb )

I really doubt Nintendo go for it, it's an interesting idea though, although i'd rather have a 3D Pokemon (insert colour/mineral/vegtable/animal). But an interesting idea none the less.

It can be done on Wii but it doesn't need to be an MMO.
MMOs are filled with noobs... without an option for a private server it'll be the most annoying Pokémon experience of my entire life.
Even with a private server I hate MMOs. How about just exploration with friends? That's a WAY better idea.

I want a different Pokemon game, they are essentially all the same. Ironically i'd rather them put most of the orginal 150 back into the mix, alongside some of the better ones after that.
Otherwise, i dont really care for it

You're one of those. Have you tried Pokémon Trouzei? Pokémon Ranger? Pokémon Colosseum? Pokémon XD? Pokémon Mystery Dungeon? Pokémon Card?
There are plenty of different Pokémon games and people still complain about them.
Also pretty much all the original 151 bar about 10 are in Diamond & Pearl anyway, so I dunno what you mean by "back into the mix".

SuperLink is annoying. An MMO would be the best thing for them to do because I'm getting tired of all of there mediocre repeats with crappy online play.
Imagine, you buy the game once and would never have to make a new character again because they could just add patches and expansion packs of more regions and pokemon later on.

Doesn\'t need to be an MMO to do any of that, and ATB would not work with Pokémon. With only 2-4 on screen at once it would still be like taking turns anyway, and it would ruin the point of the speed stat.

Like I said in my last post, they aren\'t all repeats, play one of the better than decent spin-offs. Colosseum and Ranger are great fun.

IMO, this should be one of the next steps for Pokemon (the main series).
Recent entries like D&P have been good, but still incredibly predictable and short too. 8 badges, elite 4. Fin. It's good, and the online play has brought the series forward.
Sure, there'll be a tonne of players who aren't as good, but it's all part of the experience. I feel having the ability to walk about some online world and train against real players would be awesome. Perhaps have private areas to walk around, or limit the numbers for different regions etc.

This will never come around...
Why don\'t we head back to Johto for a nice cup of tea...
Nintendo is afraid of the Pedos and child rapists... It would be ok if you were playing a co-op mode using FC but I don\'t see what you could do? PM me if you have a responce... otherwise i could careless...
One... they would make NO MON3Z off of that
Two. You just insulted a Mod.
Three... it would be rather dumb to think that nintendo would try an MMO because of the resone i just stated: PEDOS
Nintendo doesn\'t want to be held accountable for kids being raped, called fat, insulted, and many other resones I don\'t want to type using a bloody wiimote...

Pokemon is an RPG.
We love it as an RPG (well, the real fans of it. As a genre, it works really well)
And my final point, Nintendo and Game Freak won't give the licence out. the company wants the money and exposure a big licence will give them - good on you for trying, but they'll never agree to it.

First and foremost, why hasn't Nintendo already made a game like this? This is the IDEAL genre for pokemon, period.
And for those saying there will be noobs, I have this to say: Pokemon is easily the entry level RPG for anybody who owns a DS. On top of that, EVERYBODY knows about pokemon, and many people have either played, or own a pokemon game. So seeing as how the world has been in knowledge of pokemon for about a decade, how would there be noobs in an online pokemon game? Granted, if the developers changed many things around to make it really complicated, then I can see noobs popping out, but this is pokemon we are talking about, pretty straight foward.
Anyways...
These are my thoughts that I feel would make an MMO Pokemon game great fun:
Of course, there would be the standard gym battles against NPC's, but what if players can form "guilds" and, provided they had the funding, create, and customize their own gym for other players to earn badges from?
Or how about taking it old school and making the standard game contain Kanto and Jhoto, whereas the expansions can include Hoenn and Sinnoh? Not to mention the Orange islands and Ore (not sure on spelling for this region).
They can even include brand new areas that players can discover while surfing or flying.
Also, what if the Pokemon League were held in tiers- meaning there would be different competitions for trainers who have 8, 16, 24, 32, and 40 badges?
It could also be taken a step further and made so that the Elite Four are NPC's that are extremely tough trainers, and whoever manages to beat them will be the Champ. A champ who will have to defend his/her title from every player who manages to beat the elite four.
Most of these ideas are no brainers, and that's exactly why they should be implemented, because Pokemon, from its very inception, was meant to be an MMO someday.

I had always wanted a pokemon game where I could adventure with friends! Collect pokemon together, battle other trainers & gym leaders together, and kick Team Rocket's/Magma's/Aqua's/Galaxy's butt together. That is an excellent idea! I'm glad someone else is on the same page. And hell, with the way Nintendo is so Friend Code crazy, they could easily make an online game that works in that manner.

I don't think a PKMN MMORPG like WoW etc. would work. Maybe separate areas where you can battle eachother, others where you can just play co-op with friends.

And that's exactly why it will never happen. Nintendo are strictly first party, they have only ever liscenced their series when they went back on a deal with Philips, and it ended up becoming one of the greatest gaming tales of all time. (CD-i Poop)
Also, the last bit is merely personal preference. I have a 360 and a Wii and my 360 is hardly on, I play my Wii once I week and I would play it more if I didn't have so much college work to do (I've limited myself to 3 hours of gaming a week) and all 3 of those hours are on Super Smash Bros Brawl.
And another personal preference: The PS3 right now doesn't have anything deadly over 360. It soon will, but I definitely think the Wii has a more impressive game list.
