Nintendo to Bring First Console MMO, says EA Developer
Recent News
One of the developers of EA's Warhammer predicts that Nintendo will pioneer the first console-centric MMO.
In an interview with ComputerandVideoGames.com, EA Mythic creative director Paul Barnett states that he considers Nintendo to have what it takes to bring the first proper Console-supported Massively Multiplayer Online experience.
Barnett, of whom is currently working on Warhammer Online; Age of Reckoning, also said that the secret to a good Console-based MMO, lies somewhere within Rockband.
Do you think Nintendo could add the first fully-working console MMO to their long line of innovations, or do they not have a chance? Make your opinion heard below.

You would have to build something very console centric from the get-go. I think probably the best chance of someone doing something like that is Nintendo - doing something crazy that no one expects.

The best example I can find for a perpetual online console game is Rock Band, with it Xbox Live community store. It's somewhere in there. I don't know what it is, but that's perhaps the closest I've seen to convincing console people to do things together, to do things online, to do things that cost money, to earn income.

S.JBearing in mind that Wii isn't mentioned in this context, I reckon Nintendo could manage an MMO if they take into account everything Wii is doing wrong, online-wise, and improve on it for the next console.
Although honestly, I'd bet on Microsoft managing it first.

If you are one of the many complaining about lack of great Wii games, and you don't own Okami, then pipe down and go buy it.
Although honestly, I'd bet on Microsoft managing it first.

Aye - I think Microsoft will probably be first in to get a solid console MMO.

Exactly, I think Nintendo are around 10 years late if they wanted to bring about the first console based MMO.
Not to mention there are already a couple in development for 360 in Crimecraft and The Secret World. Probably more than those too I'd think.

I've been saying it for ages now. A massive online music festival; a Rock Band Woodstock.

Well said.
So, for future reference, we shall clearly have to remember that 'Barnett' is not, well, the brightest bulb in the box.

IfritXVIIAny MMO game from Nintendo will be crap.
I can imagine Animal Crossing now:
- Join up to 8 of your woof buddies in either of your towns. (requires friend code swap OMG, cool!)
- Communicate with 30 preset messages. Yay!
- Trade items like apples with your woof buddies! Yum!
- Includes minigames you and your friends can compete in to earn munnies!

noneWhy do people (ie, developers/publishers) think the only multiplayer games have to be upto a dozen OR tens of thousands?
Am I the only one that wants a persistant world -but with only a handfull of people- ?
Four Swords would work quite nicely with servers of 100 imo.
Likewise, a pokemon game would work very nicely with a hugely expanded Animal-Crossing style system.
(give each gamer there own land, with a semi-random landscape, puzzles and selection of creatures...then let players explore around eachothers lands. Have the lands semi-instance's so theres always creatures for everyone).
MMO's with millions of players, imo, all end up 99.9% the same, and I really dont want Nintendo falling into that trap :-/
More multiplayer is good, but I dont want Nintendo to do the next World Of Runequest Online.
---
oh, and this "first" comment isnt Nintendo, so dont give them the blame for that stupidity.

tiamat or tiamat1990Pokemon would be the obvious choice...I mean it just seems so frekaing obvious. I don't understand what the hold up is. Oh maybe that's the "hardcore" game Reggie was talking about that would be announced at E3.
