Pay and Play Picross Lands on WiiWare

By Adam Riley 26.05.2008 12

Following the success of Japanese WiiWare launch title 'Angel Solitaire', developer G-mode has announced a second WiiWare game now, which uses the Pay and Play service for its new version of Picross called 'Drawing Logic'.

The downloadable puzzler follows in the footsteps of other recent Picross titles, such as Super Mario Picross on Virtual Console and Picross DS, seeing players mark squares on a grid as full or empty to reveal an unknown picture.

According to the official Japanese page for the game, Drawing Logic will hit the virtual store on 27th May, 2008 for just 500 Wii points. The catch? Well, the game will require players to use up additional Wii Points to buy extra content. The company's own website reveals that new packs will be released periodically throughout the year for 300 Wii Points each. Currently there are plans to release five packs, one each month starting from June and running until October.

The game is a one-player affair that has four different styles of board to choose from and supposedly has new features that can be used that will make playing less hassle for the uninitiated. It also appears that high scores will be uploaded to an online server so you can pit yourself against others to see who gets the best scores / fastest completion times.

For more information on Picross in general, be sure to check out our review of the DS version.

With the small amount of Japanese text included in the game, it would be quite surprising if this did not eventually get released on Western shores...

I find it very odd that out of all the possibilities this is the first such title. I hope we get something better and more worthy of paying for when the service launches here. It's looking like being Samba currently.

We in the Europe already have a VC game, Super Mario Picross (900) (Hanabi) and the cool Picross DS which is around 15 now.

I got a Picross book for a few euros. Smilie I never got around doing all the puzzles, it's too hard. Smilie

FFCC WiiWare was the first to do it over here actually Linky.

Good idea, provided they don't charge too much for the packs. Picross DS seems to be everything you'd need really, though.

Way too much for too little.

Homebrew titles like PuzzleManik on the DS give a heck of a lot more puzzleing...for free. (The homebrew game has *all* of the following; Tents, Dominosa, Mines, Bridges, Light Up (aka Akari), Pattern (aka Picross), Net (aka Netwalk), Untangle (aka Planarity), Sudoku , Galaxies, Slitherlink (aka Loopy), Blackbox, Mastermind (aka Guess), Map, Filling, Solitaire (aka Pegs), Sixteen, Fifteen, Slant, Rectangles, Netslide, Samegame, Unequal, Flip, Inertia, Twiddle and Pyramid).

Phwee.

I like piccross but this would have to be some truely amazing package to be worth the price given whats free and legal already.

I've added some more details and screenshots Smilie I'm not sure, but from the screenshots it appears there will be 30 puzzles for each board type...So 120 puzzles for ~3.50, right? How many puzzles were there in Picross DS, I can't remember. And then I'm hoping the new packs for 300 Points are new batches of 120...

I like the FFCC Pay & Play. It is a little expensive but how can you go without Selkies and Lilties!? It's just not possible!

Although they should have been in it from the start.

I hope dlc will set a fairly reasonable benchpark as far as pricing goes. I don't know how they can do it with the Wii's awful memory though.

Don't other races automatically open further into the game anyway, or when you start a New Game +, no?

Right, I see I had assumed it was a full Wii game.

I've found larger screens and uploaded those as well. For the price of a NES game on VC I'd happily pick this up, unless Nintendo brings its own Picross game out as well, in which case I'd snap that up instead.

The DS Homebrew mentioned above takes up less then 4MB.
Games really only take up space if you use lots of FMV's, or insanely big textures.(or lots of music)

If WiiWare games stick to using vector graphics as much as possible, realtime cutscenes and midi+soundfont style music, space wont be much of an issue.

At least, not for low-budget games.

FFCC on Wiiware is a whopping 200 blocks +

And no I'm pretty sure the other races can't be unlocked on New Game + either. I think you need to buy them as dlc.
