Rumour; New Wii Colours and Bundles Approaching?

An SKU phase-out in a major American retailer could be the first sign of new Wii package bundles, or even new colours, if a website exclusive news-tip is to be believed.

The Site, Neowin, printed the following;

Nintendo's hugely popular Wii console has entered the internal status of 'early warning' of a major American retail outlet, meaning the current stock-keeping unit will start being phased out within 90 days and will be replaced, shortly there after, by a newer SKU.

A trusted source with access to internal documents has given Neowin this exclusive story. It remains to be seen whether this development is due to new bundles being released or perhaps coloured versions of the Wii, but the current SKU will definitely begin to be removed from sales channels within 90 days.

Given that Wii consoles barely stay on store shelves for more than an hour, a new colour or game pack-in wouldn't really be needed for any more public interest, but then again, Nintendo aren't exactly the most predictable of manufacturers.

All I can say that, if true, it took them long enough, and I can't wait until my Wii breaks so I can get a blue one as a replacement with my warrantee. Smilie

Just kidding. Wouldn't want to lose all my data. My Wii's gurantee is probably over anyway.

I'd say it's probably more likley Wiimusic than a sequal to wiisports.

Nah Wii Music would be too much of a niche title for the mass appeal required in a bundle, but then I also don't think it's WiiSports 2. It's likely something else we do not know about yet, but will know about after E3.

Are we sure it's going to be something at all?

And if "it" is bundled I sure hope it'll sell seperately too, for cheap aswell. Then Nintendo will have another total killer at their disposal.

Just kidding.

Probably just an unbundled Wii like is available in Japan and Korea. That way they can reduce the price of the console (but not as much as the Wii Sports game would cost at retail) and undercut any X360 arcade prices.

Maybe they just changed the box itself to include screen shots of current and future Wii exclusives or they'll include a new Wii strap.

New colors and/or a Hardrive seem faaaar fetched.

I don't think it's a new color.
They need to wait a while before trying that... so I'm not upset at myself for not waiting.

It's either

a) BS

b) Just some internal jiggery pokery, much like 90nm to 65nm.

Unless there's any more substantial evidence that says this will be a more significant change.
