Nintendo Spot Launches in Japan

By Jorge Ba-oh 26.05.2008 4

Nintendo have started to test out the Nintendo Spot across various locations in Japan.

The service aims to bring useful information via wi-fi to DS users on the move. Much like other tests in the US, Japanese folk can receive data and interact with providers.

At present two companies have accepted tests, from 21 different McDonalds locations and a train line, Tsukuba Express. Those munching on their burgers and fries can get a dose of "McDonalds News", presumably boasting special offers and playing Ronald McDonald animations.

The Tsukuba Express setup is far more useful, allowing for information on each stop to be passed through. Want local restaurants and popular locations? You've got it, via DS.

This is rather a mamoth thing to do.

they should really make the next handheld compatable with this, and build upon it.

Sounds great - looking forward to widespread Nintendoness!

I wish GPS weren't so expensive, then they could include that into the next handheld.

Well, if european Gallio project gets its arse in gear, GPS costs will massively fall.
Its only because its a US-Army driven monopoly at the moment.

But anyway, this looks good and they should take it furthor.
The DS is perfectly suited for this stuff.
