Age of Empires Returns to Nintendo DS

By Jorge Ba-oh 03.06.2008 2

Armies are ready for your orders on the move with Nintendo's DS receiving Age of Empires treatment once more.

THQ announced today that Age of Empires: Mythologies will head to the tiny dual-screened beast this fall, aiming to bring all the action and strategic gameplay from the PC versions. The game promises to feature extensive single and multi-player campaigns and take full advantage of the DS controls and portability.

Age of Empires: Mythologies will combine one of the most successful Windows PC franchises of all time with the innovative style and controls of Nintendo DS, bringing a totally unique experience to handheld gamers. With three playable civilizations, a fast-paced combat system and extensive multi-player options, Age of Empires: Mythologies will be one of the must-have tactical strategy games this year.
Kevin Kraff, vice president of global brand management, THQ.

Age of Empires: The Age of Kings has been available for DS since 2006.

In the Mythologies spin-off, players take the role of one of three different races: Greeks, Norse or Egyptians, building massive hordes of fighters and leading your armies to victory.

Age of Empires: Mythologies will allow players to lead mighty heroes and legendary monsters, call down divine powers of the gods, and change the tide of battle with an all-new active combat system. Age of Empires: Mythologies will also offer an immersive multiplayer experience with unique maps, customizable rules, a new skirmish mode and single-cart game sharing, allowing players anywhere to go head-to-head worldwide.

The DS version is due out during fall 2008.

a fast-paced combat system

Does this mean it will be real time?

To be honest I think replicating AoE on the DS is really asking for too much. Hopefully it will end up being a great spin-off though, and an improvement on the (not too bad) original DS game.

Sounds good, I enjoyed the first one on the DS. Though I prefer they didn't have "heroes" in the game. That is one thing I did not like in Warcraft 3.
