Nintendo Looking into Wii USB Attachments?

A recent job posting on Nintendo's site suggests that more Wii peripherals that utilize the USB slots are planned, possibly a much-needed Hard Drive too.

    Over on Nintendo's website, the following is printed;

    CONTRACT - Software/Hardware Tester

    Description of Duties

    * Creating and executing a test plan for Wii's USB devices
    * Executing test plans with great attention to detail and documenting bugs
    * Writing test procedure documents, gathering, and learning required software/hardware
    * Reproducing bug reports and helping find work-arounds or resolutions

    Summary of Requirements

    * Extremely thorough with keen attention to detail and accuracy
    * Able to execute scripted tasks lists with regular repetition
    * Ability to reliably report and track defects via spreadsheets or other bug tracking software with great detail

If there is one USB attachment gamers need for the Wii right now, it's a Hard Drive. Could this be the first sign of it on the way?

I wouldn't mind a Hard Drive. In fact I want it for N64 games I want to download. With out it I just don't have a real reason to hook it up online right now.

Meh. Could be. Would probably mean they are not very far along if they are only now looking for HDD testers. I mean, you should have them in place if the product is nearly finished...

Dont need a harddrive, just make a massive storage driver so flash-memory sticks work.
Dont need Nintendo-brand stuff, just make normal stuff work.

Not sure what USB devices they want to make themselfs really :-/
After all, anything controll-wise would be done ver bluetooth.

    oh, dont be silly.
You can fit plenty of N64 games on the internal memory, you know. Most N64 games are like, 8-16MB.

The only official things that work with the USB ports right now are things like the Boogie microphone and wireless keyboards...Hopefully whatever they come up with is useful and not just a 'Nintendo Keyboard' or new mic for Mario Party 9 Smilie

How much is 8-16MB in "Blocks"? Because I've been under the impression that N64 Games take up a lot of space...

To be honest, I never understood the Blocks buisness.
But in terms of MB, you got 512MB

Now, lets say, 50-100MB is using up your channels and save games. (which is generious).

That leaves about 400MB for downloads.
So, thats about 26 N64 games! Smilie

    To give you some size ideas;

    Mario64 - 8MB (seriously!)
ZeldaOoT - 32MB (a whooper, but youd expect that)
    GoldenEye -12MB

So, really, unless you plan to buy 30 N64 games in one go, your all good to go Smilie

    ONM love to lie...

However I'm hoping they might realise it is actually a problem.

EDIT: Darkflame, the Wii has 2000 blocks + from the start. and N64 games take up around 200-300 blocks usually.

Put that on top of your game data.

I guess it's mainly a problem for those who have lots of games. I have 20 Wii games, 2 Wiiware games and 16 VC games, + all the Channels so far. I've had to shift tons of stuff onto my SD Card.

    Me! Me!
    I have that problem, too!

And, yes! These games take up more space then Darkflame says. I ran out of memory before downloading any Wiiware titles. I own Neo-Geo-games, N64-games, Turbografx-CD-games... they take a lot of space, believe me...
But I may be an Otaku... *g*
I find your lack of faith disturbing!
