Castlevania Heading to Wii as a Fighter

By Jorge Ba-oh 27.06.2008 18

Ever fancied taking popular Castlevania characters into the fighting ring? The latest Nintendo Power has confirmed Castlevania Judgment for Wii.

The classic vampire series, which has seen countless battles between the Belmont family and Dracula, is being brought to the console world - but not as a traditional 2D sidescrolling adventure - instead as a 3D fighter. The magazine reveals some juicy tidbits, including the first snaps, details on motion controls, sub weaponry and a whole host of familiar names.

Kotaku report the return for Simon Belmont, Alcurd, Shanoa, Maria Renard and of course Dracula himself.

Players can use subweapons - depending on hearts - for example holy water, spells, daggers and set traps across destructible environments. Contrary to Konami's previous stance against motion controlled whipping, it seems like there'll be wii-remote attacking and the nunchuck attachment being used for movement.

More information will most likely be spilled in the coming weeks.

Thanks to C3 readers Andrezao, samus_boy and L for the tip.

How do you feel about the change in direction for the franchise? Should a traditional adventure be the right path, or does bringing Castlevania into the fighting world spark a refreshing change?

Lame.

My knee-jerk reaction was negative, but I'm slowly warming up to this idea. Make no mistake, I'd rather have a 2-D console game, but this could be cool.

Some characters I'd like to see (outside the obvious lead characters): Sypha Belnades, Grant Dynasty, Axe Armor, Death, Slogra, and Frankenstein

I wonder if this is the only Wii Castlevania in store and if this is the game that the notorious Wii option that appeared in the leaked DS screenshots was referring to...

You can tell that it's not going to be good.

Mmmmm... I don't know. Let's see how this pans out.

I guess the real question would be has Konami ever made a good 3D Fighter?

well u cant do to much to fuck up a fighter but i dont think fan will be happy

Will certainly be interesting to see how this pans out, Wii could do with a head-lining Fighter game.Smilie

Define "WTF"?

I sold my soul to Sony for a PS3...

If it's by either of the teams that did TMNT Tournament Fighters on the SNES or Rakuga Kids on N64 then I'll 'bite'... Smilie

With the lack of Tekken or a true Soulcalibur, this should fill the void nicely. Hopefully it will have an adventure mode tucked away as well...

Konami have little expertise in making such games, and of a calibre we expect today. I think this could go either way.

Bad graphics are bad.

Soulcalibur on Dreamcast looks better.

Why?

saw this yesterday and I think its a bad ass(in a good way) idea. Just hope it turns out well.

How do they think this is gonna sell?

Looks a bit lame from that single shot, sounds interesting though. Would like to see how this pans out..

Well, this single shot doesn't look that bad, does it?

I find your lack of faith disturbing!
