E308 Media | Mega Man 9 Debut Trailer - Multiplatform?

Posted by By (jb) 16 Number of reads 37077

Capcom have unveiled the first gameplay trailer from the upcoming Mega Man sequel.

Short clips and screens have littered the web in the last couple of weeks, but with now more solid gameplay reveals a gorgeous resurrection of 8-bit presentation in both visuals and audio.

The game continues in the series's plot, following the adventures of Capcom's most famous icon, Mega "Rock" Man. The creation of Dr. Light, the ickle fella goes up against the robotic creations of the diabolical Dr. Wily. The game follows the events of its predecessor, where riots appear to be caused by Dr. Light, and Mega Man sets out to clear his name.

Alongside the upcoming WiiWare release, it seems Capcom intend to bring the original pair of titles - Mega Man 1 and 2 to the Virtual Console download service.

Strangely enough the game's exclusively is still an issue. Earlier this month it was listed as for "WiiWare only", but now Capcom are telling IGN that it'll also be making a visit to the Xbox 360 and PS3 download networks, with logos towards the end of the video suggesting so.

WiiWare exclusive? Multiplatform? Time-exclusive?

Thanks to Linkyshinks and iFrit for the tip.

I'm seriously confused now - who is right, exactly? One week - it's a Wiiware exclusive, the next it isn't? Argh!

It will probably be a timed exclusive.

I think I spied a Beat in there...I love Beat.

On the exclusivity, it doesn't bother me if this is available on Xbox Live or PSN, but why screw with everyone on where the game is going to be available. If I owned a PS3 or Xbox 360 and wanted this game, I'd be extremely unhappy with Capcom right now for not just saying what systems will get the game.

This is why I give thanks to a developer like High Voltage. These guys are not afraid to take risks and will support the Wii with exclusive games. Capcom has no faith in the Wii at all. The HD consoles get to share games but Capcom never thinks to deveop a SD version of the game for the Wii. For example, Bionic Commando rearmed could be developed in SD for the Wii but that's not happening.

Capcom is seriously supporting the HD consoles with games but the Wii gets Spybots or whatever the game is called and Flock. This is great.

Last gen this was my second favorite developer behind Nintendo. This gen I could care less about them. Now I'm looking more to Namco and have my eye on High Voltage.

I guess this would be the "knife in the back" part I was referring to. Or at least part of it. Was waiting for this little announcement. *sigh* Damn Capcom. Typical.

I wouldn't put it past them to stiff WiiWare with the "retro" version, then plunk a couple HD upgraded versions on XBLA & PSN. Possibly with additional content and features. At least they didn't do that with GC's RE4. Oh, wait...

3rd party publishers & developers these days have been seeing it fit to f*** over Wii owners with half-assed, uninspired, low-budget shite to fund big budget projects for legitimate sequels/prequels to popular franchises and IPs on 2nd & 3rd place systems. Capcom is among the top offenders. It's like somewhere within these past several years, sound logic and reasoning was violently flushed down the shitter. WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING TO THE GAME INDUSTRY?!Smilie

Whew... rant's over. *sigh*

Chance favors the prepared mind.

Well at the end of the trailer it showed the Live and PSN logos so I'd wager it'll be heading there as well.

RE4 came out on GC ages earlier, and looked better. It's a good thing that they didn't just port it (not that they could have just straight ported with the PS2's inferior tech Smilie)

oh god Capcom what are u doing! did he say it was made for the wii with all VC to get the same feel so why is it on ps360?

-_- i think some ppl at the top done this

Cubed3 Member

This is Capcom through and through, it's undoubtedly a shame but as long as it has a long period of time exclusive on Wii that will be cool.

I thought everyone knew this was multiplatform?

Cubed3 Member

D_prOdigy,

No you did not. Capcom reps did not know it was going to be a multiplatform game. That's why they issued a response to that website that first claimed it would be a multiplatfrom game. Secondly even the developer himself stated it was a Wiiware exclusive.

Cubed3 Member

Kombo, who knew of Mega Man 9's existence long before it was officially announced, definately let on that it wasn't a WiiWare exclusive. When a Cacpom rep commented on Nintendo Power's unveiling of the game with "that's not the full story", Phil Levin (who knew about Mega Man 9 before all of us, remember) specifically said "I think what he means will annoy some Nintendo fanboys".

Cubed3 Member

Actually, I don't really care if it's multiplatform really, as long as the Wii gets it first! I don't have a 360 or PS3 any way. Smilie

Cubed3 Member

I don't care what it comes out on as long as I get it.

Meh, moar money for them. It doesn't really bother me, everyone gets to feel the retro love though the fact they they stated it was a exclusive title before is pretty... stupid.
