E308 | Nintendo Announce 1:1 Motion for Wii - Motionplus

The MotionPlus accessory is, as shown below, a tiny plugin for the remote that combined with the accelerometer control inside and the sensor bar aims to bring more comprehensive tracking of a player's position and orientation.

At present the remote does a decent job of mapping a user's gestures through shakes, swings and vigorous flapping-action but has had difficulties bringing true 1:1 precision to motion-controlled software on the console. "Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play...

...The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo's commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone."

The company have promised further details during its annual E3 conference on Tuesday July 15th 2008.

So this is yet another thing you need to buy for the Wii, and Nintendo owning up to the fact the motion control for the Wii blows.

On the one hand I'm pleased if it offers better control, on the other hand I'm royally sick of Nintendo releasing products then a year later having to add on or do a whole new console to fix the previous error.

Oh and does it say in the PR release that this = 1:1 control, no other news stories are confirming it.

    Yes, it does

EDIT: Might as well provide it...

Nintendo's upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.

Guys if you look at the picture it shows how the current remote jacket works with the addon. Place the Jacket on first then add the device to the bottom. No new remote jackets will be issued, Sorry.

Also Microsoft has not revealed that the have a motion controller. It's all just speculation not confirmation.

Great stuff, and a nasty little pre-emptive strike to Microsoft and Sony considering that they\'re both likely doing something to do with motion at E3. This is going to provide a nice demo for something at their conference...Zelda just became a little bit more likely. Wouldn\'t be surprised to see this leading to Wii Sports 2, though, or perhaps it\'ll even be used in/bundled with something like Wii Music or Animal Crossing.

The Wii remote perhaps should have been able to do this from the start, but I still wouldn\'t describe it as crap in its current state - it\'s just not been utilised properly. As a small add-on that\'s likely to be cheap or bundled with something, I support it. I wonder if it\'ll be coming with all future Wii remotes and consoles from now on...

This could be the thing to rejuvenate the Zelda series, hopefully. Well, 1:1 sword fighting would be better than 3 basic slashes. I know its off topic, but I'd like to see more sword styles in the next Zelda. Obviously not to the extent of Devil May Cry, but it'd be nice to get a Katana or a Tai Chi sword.

This is amazing news and really dents the new peripheral in the works for xbox. I wonder if the nunchuck can still be used. This should make componants in games like sword fighting a lot easier to impliment. I'm already impressed with this E3. A great surprise announcement

The nunchuk can still be used. I believe that's a flap for it at the bottom of the new peripheral. Smilie

I would love to know how this came about. I know A lot of developers have said that implementing motion control is a lot harder then it reads on paper. Did nintendo get a lot of negative feed back from developers or they knew what the score was and knew games like golf were harder to put out then they should have been. Or did they struggle themselves when working on an ambitious title in-house. either way Ubisoft and co have no excuses as to why their future titles suck. I expect either redsteel 2 to be pushed back and worked on for longer or redsteel 3 or equivalant to work beautifully

Yeah it looks like you can actually secure the strap in place which is a smart addition, but I've never swung it hard enough to cause problems anyway.
