E308 | Reggie: Nintendo Not Leaving People Out

By Adam Riley 16.07.2008 22

Many questions may have been asked about where certain games were at this year's E3 event, but Nintendo feels nobody has been left out. Whilst many would wonder where the new Zelda was or what Nintendo had to offer for the 'hardcore' gamer, Reggie Fils-Aime believes that there was enough for everyone at the show:

"How could you feel left out? The Animal Crossing that we've been hearing about that people wanted. Fully connected to the Internet, go to other people's towns. Plus as I said, Grand Theft Auto on the DS. How do you feel left out with those types of announcements?"

As for where the much-talked about Kid Icarus on Wii was, he quickly side-stepped giving a firm response:

"You know, we never said he was coming. We've all seen the rumours and all of what we see as the desires that consumers want. Make no mistake, Mr. Iwata said quite clearly: Mario teams, Zelda teams are working, they're bringing product out for Wii this generation. We're going to continue to bring all our best franchises to both of our key platforms and continue driving that experience both core as well as brand new consumers."

But do you feel that fans have indeed been sold short by Nintendo so far at this year's E3 event? Let us know by posting below...

ok, I say he needs to reflect on things a bit better.

Let's summarize a bit: Nintendo talks about broadening their audience. Check. Nintendo succeeds. Check. Nintendo sees the cash flow. Check. Nintendo continues the trend. Check.

How come they don't know their consumers? All the core gamers want is a little bit of confirmation that some super titles are underway. There's no promotion about those anywhere.

The worry is about nintendo forgetting the core audience, and they need to communicate back to it.

They don't neglect their core gamers, I know, but he should just understand their worries. The common perception right now is lack of core gaming support, which is ungrounded, but simply there because of all the attention the casual crap is getting (as opposed to the no-buzzer supergames).

Oh well, this is the same company of the "revolutionary pac-man announcement a couple of years back...

A game that is basically the same as the GC + DS version with voice chat and a game that we have no information is about.... yep we are excited.

Where was Tales of Symphonia? Nothing on the Wii Tales title after that either? Where was Day of Disaster? More ports? A peripheral for the Wii to finally do what was promised from Day One? What happened to Pilotwings? Are we ever getting those other colours of Wii hardware or remotes? Animal Crossing is more of the same, and rather a casual approach seems to have been taken to it. Why don't you develop Kid Icarus if there is already so much hype. No new IPs either. I feel left out, without a doubt.

The Xbox is getting Fable 2, FFXIII, Left 4 Dead, Mirror's Edge, the real versions of Spider-man: Web of Shadows and Star Wars Force Unleashed, Tales of Vesperia, Quantum of Solace, Banjo & Kazooie, Soul Calibur IV... all hilarious jokes aside, it may be a while until I get some good use out of my Wii.

Dissappointing year for me, possibly one of those years worth forgetting about, and use it to simply build hype for Mario, Zelda and Pikmin next year. I suppose with the money Nintendo are making from all this, there is little surprise with the direction they're following. I just wish they'd stop trying to convince everyone of their 'commitment' to the traditional gamer.

I can't believe I am boarding the Xbox train.. me.. Nintendo fanboy for 15 years.

*pines for the Nintendo of days gone by*

GTA DS will probably be absolute tripe.

GTA DS is just for whiners so they can say "lol there's a GTA on DS".

Reggie doesn't get hardcore gamers. Animal Crossing is NOT a hardcore game, and it's JUST LIKE an OLD DS/GC game. Even the graphics are the same...

This is just pathetic.

Oh come on Nintendo. It doesn't matter if the titles aren't nearly finished, just show us, give us games that consumers are dying to see.

Zelda. Kid Icarus. New Mario. Bring new software to the table, new franchises.

You've got the Zapper. Where are the titles for it?
Wii microphone. Where are the titles for it?
Wii wheel. Where are the games?

This E3 has been absolutely pathetic. The Motionplus sounds good, but where are the games?

Nintendo, for me this year, seem to be very much like politicians. Throw out some promises. But where are the goods. Okay, so we have our new periperals. Where are the games?

Fuck you Reggie. 2 fucking games does not justify a catalogue. Yes, he's doing his job and has barely any influence on what games Nintendo themselves produce, but honestly there really had to be more to show.

The nintendo hardware is a bit of a catch twenty two. On one hand the interaction the interface is moving forward but the internal hardware isnt there to meet it half way. So when u mention GTA I think great the shooting mechanics and the general control not to mention the ingame mechanics that could be included will be great. But the game will look blocky almost painful unless they find a way around it like ninja gaiden.
Nintendo look a bit lazy of late just using old franchises what about reviving ones that havent been used in over a decade or new ones entirely like what pikmin was to the cube.

Reggie... at least don't justify the shit lineup.

I feel very left out, there is nothing that I find interesting from nintendo this year.

If Reggie said "Yeah we were pretty crap this year" I think all my faith in Nintendo would actually be instantly restored.

No such luck eh?

i can see it now nintendo are going to build up their user base till they hit the 100million mark, which will be mostly made up of the casual gamer and then they are going to try turn their attention to the hardcore gamer who by that time would have jumped ship. then what are they going to do? try sell hardcore games to the casual gamer? it wouldent surprise me after all they are trying to sell casual games to the hardcore

Uh yes they have indeed. Where was your fucking support for The Conduit Nintendo? What about MadWorld? What about those unique WiiWare games like World of Goo? Why didn't you even TALK or just MENTION those games? Because you're too busy fucking around with casual games that's why.

And how can we be satisfied with some shitty GTA DS announcement? We didn't see anything!

And Animal Crossing as a game for the core audience? Are you joking? The game looks exactly like the DS and even the GC version except you relocated the stores to some shitty city with a new coat of paint. Oh innovation indeed!

Where was Tales of Symphonia? Where was de Blob? Fuck you Reggie. Fuck you Nintendo. This is yet another reason why I'm no longer in love with this company. And yes they are just that, a company. It's sole purpose to make money so good on them but they've lost me. They don't give a shit either which is even more frustrating.

I felt it was shit, Nintendo let me down this year, nothing i wanted ot hear was announced.

Where'as microsoft delivered thankfully.

Booo

to me all animal crossing wii does is show how far nintendo are prepared to go with their online network. a community mic just aint cutting it. everything sony' home is should be in animal crossing.

We've been shown loads of new innovative casual games....
Show us some new innovative hardcore games...and not just revived franchises...that's not innovative D:

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

He's wrong. All over the 'net on every site all I read are disgruntled Nintendo fans disappointed by this conference.

Animal Crossing: not a core title.

GTA DS: fine. But we have no info or screens on it. We therefore have no idea if it will be good or crap.

CoD5: The Conduit looks better, plus the co-op mode looks crap. Give us proper (online) co-op.

WiiSpeak: voice chat, yes, but I'll wait for a headset.

MotionPlus: no core games to show which use this? Eh.

I am one of those disgruntled Nintendo fans. Third party stuff looks fairly promising, though.

May have been said before and if so I apologize but personally I think by far the worst thing about the announcements is the motion plus add-on. Its complete bollocks cos you are basically paying for what the wii should have been doing coming out of the box and they are basically saying it wasnt that great to start with and was never really very accurate.

You know, we never said he was coming.

ASSHOLE!!! SmilieSmilieSmilie

Well i've got a load of things to rant about... but it seems everyone else here has beat me to it. Like jb said "where r the games for all these peripherals". I could guote loads of other points people hav made but there isn't much point. Basically i recon i agree almost everyone here.

Nintendo is working on stuff, duh.
They choose not to show anything at this time.

Pretty simple really.

Also; E3 was hugely scaled back. Hence why lots of 3rd party titles wernt shown either.

"Oh well, this is the same company of the "revolutionary pac-man announcement a couple of years back..."

That game ROCKED.
seriously.
