E308 | Miyamoto: MotionPlus Perfect for Punch-Out!

By Jorge Ba-oh 17.07.2008 6

During his countless E3 discussions, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned the possibility for Punch-Out! Wii.

Speaking to IGN in a short video interview, the Mario creator explains the differences between your bog-standard Wii remote and the brand-spanking new addition of Motionplus. Using Punch-Out! As an example, he notes how a far more accurate boxing simulation could be created that goes beyond the simplicities of Wii Sports.

The Wii remote itself is good at detecting larger movements, whereas the Wii MotionPlus is better at detecting more subtle movements. And so, by combining the two of those, the feeling is that it just opens up the pallette of what can be done, in terms of motion control. And so that means there's a lot of possibility in terms of something, like a very accurate version of Punch-Out!! that goes beyond what Wii Sports Boxing can do, or even other ideas...

Thanks to Kombo for the tip.

What a perculier company. They know what people want so instead of just producing a wet dream conference they release the info people want to hear in drips.

I really do not understand their mentality. All of these news stories trickling out would have made their conference a little better and also more people would have heard it. I'm sure all these stories are lost in the seas of Final Fantasy XIII to 360, Gears 2, MAG, God of War 3 etc.

If it's real I hope it's not flailey, and I hope it's enough to be a game on it's own.

If they revealed all of these stories at E3 conference they would have had nothing to reveal these past 3 days! Smilie

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Agreed - showing a quick demo reel of the a Punch-Out! game would have made the event a bit more exciting, even if it isn't any where near complete.
