E308 | Gradius Blasting onto Nintendo's WiiWare

By Adam Riley 17.07.2008 5

Following the revelation of Mega Man 9 from Capcom and the revival of old franchises from Hudson, it seems Konami is now jumping on-board the WiiWare download service at last. Following the 3D take on the series for the PlayStation 2, Konami is set to revamp the classic franchise on WiiWare, although details of whether this is a remake of an old version or something completely new is currently unknown. However, what IS known is that the game is taking on the appearance of the 16-bit era, similar to Gradius III on the Super Nintendo, and is set for a Japanese release in Summer 2008.

Given the name 'Gradius Rebirth' you have to hope it is related to one of the stronger entries from the side-scrolling space shooter's back catalogue. All Konami has said for the time being is that the team will be aiming to give Gradius a much more modern appearance, as well as updating the gameplay to suit hardcore gamers's needs.

Excellent news! I love Gradius!

Awesome news. All my wishes in the Wii Ware Dreaming thread are coming true! Smilie

I think this could be a Wii version of the PS3 Gradius game that was planned but then later cancelled along with some other titles. Whether it\'s 2D or 3D it does not matter to me as long as it has the hallmark of Gradius games that are highly revered. The weapons system, graphics and music, and bosses, all have to live up to the past games.

Konami it seems are getting the message. If their Wii games are not doing well they should be relying on the long list of greats from their past.

A new Parodius Wii next?, I hope so Smilie, I cannot think of any shooter that could suit the Wii as well.

Twin Bee Wii and Salamander would be great to have over on Wii Ware also.

The image in the article in the link comes from Gradius 3, not from the Wiiware game.

So what makes you think it\'s gonna be a 16-bit looking game ? Where did you find that bit of info ?

EDIT :

Linkyshinks>I wish we could have a new Parodius as well !

RE-EDIT :

OK sorry i didn\'t watch the screenshot available, shame on me

I love this game... every time I go to Oxford Street.. at ZAVVI they have an arcade thingy there and they got about 12 old skool games and they have Gradius it awsome.. I always end up spending a few quid!!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Awesome, now here's a flying shooter worth blowing your money on!
