Following the revelation in this week's Famitsu of the Xbox 360's Dead Rising being ported to Wii, could Lost Planet also be on the way? Over on the Capcom forums the following was posted:
So could Capcom have even more surprises in offer for eager Wii fans? Considering the completely untouched port of the GameCube's Resident Evil 0, complete without any advertising push, has sold more than 20,000 units on Wii in its first week over in Japan, clearly it looks like the company could have great success with any ports.
Would you like to see Lost Planet on Wii as well as Dead Rising? And what other Capcom games would you like to see ported to Wii in the future?
Capcom Fan: "Hey Sven, just out of curiosity, how come you guys chose Dead Rising over Lost Planet for Wii? I'm just curious because it seems like LP would be the easier of the two games to port over, considering that it's an FPS. The number of zombies on screen in the 360 version of DR at once was pretty ridiculous. Factor in the load times and all the different moves, it just seems like translating all this content for the Wii will take a considerable amount of effort. Again, Lost Planet seems like it would have been the easier choice.
Is there some kind of major discrepancy in the hardware requirements between the two games that lead to the choice? Also, was it your call of Capcom in Osaka's?
Christian Svensson of Capcom: Let's discuss next week. I can't comment until then when a bit more will be clear *smiles*

Well I know there's going to be a lost planet movie sometime next year.
It would be a good game on the Wii, but i'd think some sort of spin-off would be more likely.

I think his response was purposely ambiguous just to get us all in a spin!

It would be alright if they include the new MP modes and include VChat.
I have already had my fill of Lost Planet long ago on PC.

"when a bit more will be clear" basically means that they're going to explain how exactly they're going to fit DR on Wii. Probably announcing majoy gimpness, but lets stay optimistic.

Well, Lost Planet did start as a PS2 project, so it's not entirely impossible for it to come to Wii...

I liked the look of Lost Planet. On Wii it could be awesome. These kind of ports I don\'t mind, mainly because they\'re ports of good/current-gen games. Nothin\' wrong with that.( Edited 18.07.2008 12:30 by Wiill )

If they can manage a respectable version of Dead Rising for Wii, then I don\'t see why others can\'t follow.
LS, was Lost Planet any good? I never got round to playing it.

Yeah it\'s a good game, if a little shallow ultimately, it does not really do much that\'s new, but what it does do it does well enough. It\'s certainly no Metroid Prime. Capcom made it so that it appealed to both their home market as well as the US, you could say that meant sacrifices in areas.
The heat mechanic is new and is mainly what makes this game stand apart from other other games. You need to stay warm basically by way of all available means. Harvesting a warm goo from the aliens is one means, another way is small heat generators found dotted around the landscape that give you a brief spurt that will start to ebb away as soon the warmth meter has replenished. You cannot survive long without both. There is also the extensive use of Mechs in the game which was kind of new to a game of this kind. The game also features some very cool bosses which are huge and fun to fight against. The MP is fun with some great gameplay to be had. The Mechs are fun to use in that also.

Exactly what I was just thinking. Maybe Capcom are realizing they can take advantage of a massive abscence of "serious/hard-core" games on the Wii. So far, everything they touch seems to turn to gold (RE 4, RE: UC, Mega Man 9), with the sad exception of Zack & Wiki.

By gold you mean sell well. Sadly it's not a case of investment = gold with Capcom on Wii

About to board my plane. Merry Christmas everyone!

Who cares, Lost Planet was a pretty awful game. Dead Rising is much more interesting.

Well... Lost Planet was Samus' Ice-World with some more enemies and warm energy instead of power-up-globes.
So we have Lost Planet since Metroid Prime. But it's a graphic blender, nothing wrong with that...
What's more important is: You can make money with games almost entirely based on graphics and you can control big crowds, both on Wii. They almost reveal, that the frontier for Wii power is much more far away then they want us to believe...
And like Wiill said: It's almost nothing wrong with quality ports. At least until they only do ports and no no new games. But since exclusives are rare these days anyway, nothing wrong with Wii-versions of Nextgen games. Better then shovelware crap anyway to get money.
But nothings beats new software for Wii, of course!

Yes, gold = high sales, not necessarily time invested or quality (once again, as demonstrated by the relatively low sales of Zack & Wiki, which probably had more dev time than any of the other 3 I listed).

I don't think Z&W did anywhere near as bad as people keep making out. It sold something like 25,000 in Japan, 45,000-50,000 in its first two months in the US and managed to break the UK Top 20 when released. It could have done up to 150,000 worldwide, minimum, which for a point-and-click adventure/puzzle style game surely can't be too disappointing for Capcom.
There has already been talk of a sequel coming anyway, from that leaked release list that showed Phoenix Wright 3 coming (after it was said to have been cancelled for Europe). And remember, Capcom told C3 a DS version sounded appealing as well...so who knows, especially with Konami taking its risky Wii project (Elebits) to DS to improve sales.
