SEGA Positive About Future Mario & Sonic Crossovers

By Adam Riley 19.07.2008 11

Talking with SEGA earlier this week, it was revealed that a future collaboration between the company's mascot, Sonic, and Nintendo's exuberant Italian plumber, Mario, could well be on the cards. SEGA of America's President, Simon Jeffery, explained that sales of the Wii and Nintendo DS versions of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games have now surpassed the ten million mark around the world, far in excess of the company's projected four million total that was initially set. And this is before the Olympics actually kick off over in Beijing, with sales expected to shoot up again when the event commences.

As a result of the huge success, the question has to be whether or not Mario and Sonic will once again team up in the future, especially given how Sonic made an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii. In response Jeffery was cagey, but positive, stating, "We would be delighted to do another game with Mario and Sonic."

But what would you like to see - an in-depth RPG cross-over, a platform outing developed by Miyamoto-san and the team at EAD, or something completely different?

Sonic and Mario Platformer plz.Smilie

What Phoenixus said.

This is by no means a confirmation but if SEGA want to then I'm sure it's just a matter of time before Shigsy says "yes" again.

I wouldn enjoy another mario & sonic olympics, but this time call it Sonic & Mario ;].

But, i'd rather see a propper platformer, somehow mixed together.

Ooooh! And Sonic & Mario RPG Crossover! Something like "Super Mario RPG" with Gameplay like "Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga." To save their friends from the evil duo of Bowser and Dr. Robotnik, Mario and Sonic must first collect the Seven Stars (for Mario) and the Seven Chaos Emeralds (for Sonic) and combine there powers! The battle system could play out more like Superstar Saga did and just focus on a four person party system. Two of the four people must be from one of the two mascot universes (while the other two are from the other) to help promote the "joining forces" to save the world! Wow, this sounds really awesome! I just thought this whole thing up! Smilie

\"But what would you like to see - an in-depth RPG cross-over, a platform outing\"

Both those two.
Lets have the Sonic Rush team working with the Mario & Lugia team. That would work so well.

I think a DS game to start with...test the waters.
Purhapes a ZeldaSmilieH engine style.

in light of their attempts to bring sonic into 3d i wouldent want a platformer for the wii including mario and sonic developed by sega, unless it was 2.5d or on the ds

No wonder Sega wants Sonic in crossovers. That's the only time Sonic gets a good game: When not done by Sega alone...

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

haha.. *points and laughs @ Sega & Sonic*

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562
