Resident Evil 5 to Devour Wii?

By Jorge Ba-oh 23.07.2008 14

With Resident Evil 5 being one of the better games shown at E3 last week, an interview could hint at a Wii release.

SEGA's Simon Jeffery recently spoke to Kotaku on core gaming and Nintendo's offerings at E3. He also, supposedly accidentally, mentioned a release of Resident Evil 5 on Wii. When questioned off camera he responded with a firm "slip of the tongue", due to previously discussing Microsoft's showing of the game for Xbox 360 earlier that day.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime was also pestered, laughing off claims with a "Not yet".

With Dead Rising crawling onto the Wii, will Capcom also bring fellow horror title Resident Evil to the console as well?

Thanks to C3 reader Evil Flame for the tip.

"Have you seen Resident Evil 5?" Smilie

Gameplay wise Re5 is probably actualy more suitable and easier to port then Dead Rising.

Or, for that matter, porting Re4 to the Ps2.

The video doesnt work for me.

I doubt that it would be coming to the Wii, unless they build it from the ground up again, and that would be too much hard work, well, they could port it seeing how dead rising was ported. Plus, there\'s the online co-op, which means that it would have to sell with the voice chat thing(i\'ve forgotten it\'s name) and would have to have decent servers.

I think RE5 is possible on Wii if Dead Rising is, but I'm sure this was just a slip of the tongue. E3 must be really tiring.

The sad thing is, some people are now going to expect Resident Evil 5 on Wii.

I can\'t see why it can\'t be done on the Wii, just have a look at Resident Evil 4 during the part where the villagers are attacking the cabin as well as the Mercenaries game. The Resident Evil 4 engine is quite capable of handling numerous enemies, and the Resident Evil 5 engine is based on 4.

Considering the amount of sales that Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles managed Capcom would be mad not to bring Resident Evil 5 to the Wii.

I\'m also hoping that a GTA game will be on its way soon too. With a console having nearly 30m units and over 45% marketshare Rockstar would be mad not to release a GTA game for it. Contrary to popular belief good 3rd party games do in fact sell well, and the best selling 3rd party games could be considered \'core\' titles.

Agreed! Hopefully they'll bring both GTA and RE5 to Wii, both Cap and Rock would be mad not to. MAD!

Ok, the video works for me now, Wow that really did seem like he meant it, but it was just a slip of the tounge i\'m sure.

He is right about the Wii\'s demographic though, casual games don\'t actually sell well unless they\'re actually made by nintendo, the hardcore market is where it\'s at.

Resi 4 proves this could be done, even if it did have to sacrifice a few zombies here and there.

Im just surprised he didnt realise his slip up sooner after the interviewers jaw hit the deck!

A spokesperson for Capcom responded to a query from CVG, saying: "Did you hear about the Sonic MMO, though, for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS and Megadrive? And they're bringing back the Dreamcast! Because it was brilliant."

Make a ground up RE instead?

Haha, it would look like a mildly polished turd, and run like said turd in a tracksuit.

I agree with iCAME, make a ground up version in the style of 4. It will sell.

Add me on anything. I'm always looking for new friends/opponents/town visitors/chances to appear more popular than I actually am.
