Koji Igarashi Considering 8-bit Castlevania

By Adam Riley 24.07.2008 6

Following the revelation of Capcom bringing an 8-bit Mega Man to WiiWare, it has clearly intrigued other developers, including Konami's Koji Igarashi, who heads up the Castlevania franchise. When asked about Capcom's retro-styled title, he stated:

"I'm watching that very closely to see how it does. Myself, I'm a big retro gaming fan, so if it is successful that definitely opens up doors for what I can do."

Would you like to see a new Castlevania in an old retro style, or would a smoother DS-like 2D download game be preferable? Let us know your thoughts below...

OLD RETRO STYLE!!!

Lol, I don't mind what style they adopt as long as they bring out a traditional Castlevania!

All this nonsense about having to use the motion control is absolute garbage. Igarashi goes on, and on, and on about how they need to use the Wiiremote as a whip. They don't! How about using the remote on its side, along with Classic and GC controller support.

2D. Traditional control. WiiWare. EASY!

I'm sure if they released a DS-styled Castlevania with better resolution graphics for WiiWare they'd easily sell a shitload.

Come on Konami!

Definitely want. Although SNES style would be better.

Yep SNES style would be far better, they could employ some new Mode 7 effects.

Castlevania 4 was awesome, it had great music and graphics for the time.

I'm loving this 8/16-Bit revival in gaming. A "classic" Castlevania would be wonderful, though I prefer it based on the look of the SNES games as opposed to the NES. I'll take either as long as it is of the same quality gameplay as earlier Castlevanias.

Also, I totally agree about the Wii Remote as a whip thing. Did we have to use it as a steering wheel in Mario Kart Wii? No. Did we have to use it to control our fighters in Brawl? No. If he is so concerned about it, just make optional controls. Is that such a mind-blowing idea???

Oh dear god I hope this isn't a new trend...
