Wario Land Wii Starts Slow in Japan

By Adam Riley 25.07.2008 8

The latest first day sales for Japan are now in, with the main focus being on Nintendo's first attempt at a home console 2D game in the form of Wario Land: The Shake Dimension. Sadly it appears that the game is tracking far lower than previous Wario platform games, including Master of Disguise on the DS. Check out the numbers below:

  • Pawapro Baseball 15 (PS2) - 50,000 (compared to 79,000 for last year's version's first day sales)
  • Pawapro Baseball 15 (Wii) - 15,000 (compared to 21,000 for last year's version's first day sales)
  • Siren (PS3) - 20,000
  • Sora no Kiseki 3 (PSP) - 20,000
  • Kateikyoshi Hitman (NDS) - 20,000
  • Wario Land: The Shake Dimension (Wii) - 10,000
  • Bully (360) - 5,000
  • Bully (PS2) - 5,000
  • Twilight Syndrome (NDS) - 5,000
  • Infinite Loop (PSP) - 2,000
  • Guitar Hero 3 (360) - 1,000
For those wondering, these are the previous Wario platformer sales, with first week | total sales highlighted:

  • Wario Land 4 (GBA) - 102,873 | 412,495
  • Wario World (GC) - 49,851 | 142,845
  • Wario: Master Of Disguise (NDS) - 87,731 | 289,872
The question now has to be whether or not it can open up over the weekend given how Nintendo is throwing lots of adverts at TV in Japan right now. Stick around until next week to find out...

Thats too bad. Wario Land Shake it looks like a pretty fun game.

That's a real shame - hopefully it picks up through word of mouth. There are mutterings of it being one of the top few Wii games going about at the moment.

I might have to import it to play it two months early. Smilie

Looks pretty damn amazing from the new user videos shown recently. Like playing a real cartoon! Smilie

Brawl FC : 2191 - 6919 - 2772

It'd be better without random waggling. Other than that it looks great.

Apparently the shaking is integrated as well as in Mario Galaxy, so that's a good sign.

It's a shame that it isn't selling well out in Japan but maybe it will have higher sells in the UK and Europe.Smilie
