Psionic- Now that Nintendo has found a business model that works, why go back to hardcore? They’re not going to the hardcore right now, no reason for them to until casuals stop buying their games
Seriously, people need to stop being so melodramatic. Nintendo never came out and said that they had abandoned the "core" group of Wii users, it's just people overreacting to things that never happened. From the beginning of the Wii's life there was always one "core" release per month, at the least. If Nintendo was abandoning that group, those releases never would have happened.
Let's face it: E3 now is more gearead towards the mainstream news media/publications. They're going to show off the products that the average person would care about and be able to remember. It's simple business, really.
Nintendo hasn't abandoned anyone. This "core" group has become greedy and expects them to pump out new Zeldas, Marios, Metroids, Pikmins, and every other franchise like its nothing.

noneWell said, PsionicMW.
Everyone is overreacting. Big time. Nintendo hasn't "abandoned" the hardcore audience in the slightest, rather, they've expanded beyond the hardcore gamers alone. The problem lies with the half-assed, low-budget shite 3rd parties are dumping on Wii en masse.
The ignorance that runs rampant in the game industry is just too much. Everyone from the gamers to the companies that develop and publish these games need to do their damn homework.
On a side note, I'm going to be SUPER pissed if Activision doesn't include a proper co-op mode for the Wii version of COD:WaW. Not to mention NWFC functionality. This has me VERY concerned. The game is looking great, but I'm going to be f***ing pissed as hell if they gimp the Wii version. Again.
I'm also concerned about Factor 5's upcoming title. Especially if it really is the long rumored Kid Icarus game we've all been waiting for (for the same reasons Matt mentioned). Just give me a Rogue Squadron type game for Wii that spans the entire Saga, makes full use of all Wii's capabilities, has robust online co-op & vs. modes/features, and implements more simulator-like elements (like Ace Combat) and I'll be very happy for a very long time.

I think the situation with the third parties is improving, sans Ubisoft of course. I was just thinking about the games coming out this holiday and Q1 of 2009 and quite a few of them are decent (gasp, I know) third party games. Guitar Hero, The Force Unleashed, The Conduit are just a few to mention. While the other systems may be getting some of those games as well, we can't complain about them coming to Wii without being ridiculously gimped.
I can't think of many titles right now, but my brain is fried from working all afternoon with the public.
