Bandai Namco Finds Sales Success on Nintendo Formats

By Adam Riley 07.08.2008 3

Whilst Bandai Namco may have been reporting financial losses recently, it seems like the company has still been having great success on Nintendo formats. For the first fiscal quarter of 2008/2009, the company dropped 63% in terms of profit compared to last year's figures.

Game sales in Japan totalled 1.7 million units, 1.39 million were sold in Europe, 740,000 in North America and 113,000 the rest of Asia. For the rest of the year, Bandai Namco is expecting 13.4 million sales in Japan, 5.68 million in Europe, 5.46 million in North America and 300,000 in the rest of Asia.

The PlayStation 2 proved to still be the leading platform for the company, with 1.15 million games sold across the system, although DS and PSP were not far behind, with 985,000 and 769,000 units sold on each respective format. As for specific game sales, Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 was the most popular in the Q1 period, with around 420,000 units sold in Europe, followed by the duo of recent Japanese releases, Taiko no Tatsujin 2 on Nintendo DS, which sold over 260,000 by the time of the report, and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World on Wii, which has surpassed 215,000 units.

I wish they'd show it by supporting the Wii a bit better than they do D:

Well Bamco is bringing the next main entry in the Tales series to Wii next...that's been confirmed already. Then there's Fragile, which looks very impressive indeed, and Taiko no Tatsujin coming to the system. Support is gradually increasing Smilie

Namco's doing both Fragile and two Tales games.
