When looking through the Virtual Console line-up, some may be wondering where many of Capcom's classic SNES and NES greats are. Now the answer has been revealed. Sadly, since many of its best games from back in those days were Disney properties, there are major issues with getting the likes of Duck Tales, Chip 'N Dale, Aladdin and TaleSpin onto Nintendo's retro download service.
As Christian Svensson recently stated, "Licensing issues abound. I think you'd be hard pressed to see them show up, but you never know."
With any luck a deal with Disney can be struck to help bring games such as those listed to the Virtual Console in the future.

TBH I don't see why Disney would say no. Everyone loved those old classic Disney platformers.

Disney would say no because they are an idiotic burucracy.
They charge huge lisence fee's making the minimum amount of profit required very high indeed for anything to be worth it.
So despite the fact WiiWare has little to no start up costs, no distribution costs, and gives nearly pure profit...Disney *still* would charge a lot because they would lose money on the paperwork.
Seriously arg >_<
This sort of thing has happened a few times with Disney-lisenced comics. They sale just fine, the publisher is happy. But then Disney raise the lisence fee due to "admin costs". The publisher then has to drop it, because they cant make money anymore.
Ergo, no one gets money from it, not even disney.

I thought as much recently. I hope something can be worked out because Duck Tales and Chip 'N Dale on NES were fantastic games, especially the latter. I had Aladdin on SNES but did not care for it much, it was nowhere near as good as Chip N Dale.

I still play the orignal cart of Aladdin on my SNES every now and then so I have no worries. IMO Aladdin is one of the greatest platformers with Disney's name on it. Makes me wonder how Donald Duck in Maui Mallard would've turned out if Capcom had developed it

Personaly, I think the solution is to re-sprite everything removing all the branding :p

It's a different game. Both are okay. Tha latter is an X360-compared-to-Wii game. The former a slow mario-like Jump'n'run. I wouldn't care for the former, today, but back then it surely wasn't bad. I just saw 2 levels. The first one is bigger. But both look great graphics-wise. The latter s upscaled. A but unfair to compare these two like that.
I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Chip N Dale NES awesomeness-
Dale powned because he had a red nose.
Duck Tales NES
I liked the Gameboy version more.

What are you talking about? They're both emulated. As for upscaling- I can't see any. Even if there were, that doesn't effect the much higher animation quality, etc. The Megadrive version of Aladdin was made by the people who went on to form Shiny Entertainment and make the Earthworm Jim games. It shows in their version of Aladdin, with it's Disney-like animation. The SNES version by Capcom pales in comparison.( Edited 04.09.2008 09:19 by Martin_ )

I thought this was something that was potentially being sorted? I'm not too bothered, but I'd like for my Dad to be able to download Castle of Illusion to his PS3. For him it represents the pinnacle of gaming. And he never even got past the soldiers on the stairs.
I'd actually forgotten about Chip 'N' Dale but my brother had the first one on his NES. Top-hole stuff.
Somebody should get Warren Spector to give Disney a kick up the arse from the inside. Because getting 15 year-old games released on virtual consoles is probably high on his to-do list.

Capcom's SNES Aladdin was really shit compared to Virgin's Megadrive version, anyway. Observe..
The first part is the SNES version, and then from 1:59 onwards, it's the Megadrive version. I wouldn't pay money for the shitty SNES one by Capcom, anyway. So as far as Aladdin is concerned, no big deal.
