Rumour: Final Fantasy IV Sequel Coming to...Wiiware?

Could the Mobile-based sequel to Square's Final Fantasy IV be released on Wiiware in western territories? A producer of the versions of IV hints at such.

According to RPGsite.net, Square-Enix are considering bringing the game, in an episodic format on Mobile Phones in Japan, to Wiiware for the rest of the world, to fit alongside other retro-based titles like Megaman 9 and Gradius Rebirth.

When asked by a fan if they would ever remake FF4 -again- for next gen consoles, Producer Takashi Tokita, also responsible for most of the FF4 universe games - FF4, FF4Advance, FF4 DS and the After, replied:

We just remade it, so it's a bit of a stretch... [Laughs] Currently the sequel, FINAL FANTASY IV the After: Tsuki no Kikan is available for mobile phones in Japan. We'll do our best to make this game available for our overseas audiences as well!

From this, RPGsite claims that after pursuing Square-Enix for answers, their sources discovered the strong possibility of a Wiiware release.

    Final Fantasy IV: The After centers on the son of Cecil and Rosa, two of the main characters from the original title, and uses a modified engine of the original SNES version of IV. The game is delivered in episodic format on Phones in Japan (as it is expected to be for any potential Wiiware release), and has already reached 1 million downloads. A screenshot of the game;

Would you like to see this game appear on Wiiware, and if so, how much do you think would be a fair price point?

I haven\'t completed FFIV DS yet, but I\'d love to see this come to Wiiware, if only to bolster Square\'s lackluster Wii support so far. Smilie

Heck yeah I'd play it! FF4 is the first FF game I ever played and is probably my most favorite! I hope they do bring the game(s) over.

Excellent! I was worried it would NEVER see a release over here, and I'm glad Square are trying to make their mobile games available over here in some form too...

So what about Before Crisis? Any chance of that showing up? I can see it showing up on PSN, being an FFVII game and all.

One day I will be a real life anime.

Awesome! It would be great if this happened, it would be a good thing to release on Wiiware.
As Superlink said, I'm also curious about Before Crisis, since KH: Coded and possible FFIV: The After are being released differently for the west, maybe Before Crisis will too.

I'm yet to complete FFIV, always got stuck on the last part of the game.

That would be nice...but if they do I hope they'd update it with the Final Fantasy IV DS engine.

I dont think a potential port of a mobile phone game on WiiWare is anything remotely to get excited about.

Do you know what Japanese phones can DO!?

EDIT: I\'ll just say that StrongBad would run fine on a Japanese mobile.

I'm suprised they didn't try RE4 DS since i think it would look loke that.

I think this would be a great edition to Wiiware if it's true I don't know how far i've got through FF4(as in the percentage of completion) but I'm sure this is a great game.

this would make sense since almost any old school series out there is now likely to get a new old school episode on nintendo's service (first megaman, then gradius, and soon maybe a castlevania)

Nah it'd look much worse on DS. Most Japanese mobile games can look as good as, or better than, PSP games.

    Final Fantasy Agito XIII
Was on Mobile at first, but apparantly kept relatively low spec just incase S-E felt the need to port to PSP to support a wider audience (which is what they did). They're doing the same for Kingdom Hearts Coded.
