REmake to be Ported to Wii (Update - Japan Only)

By Shane Jury 25.09.2008 15

Update (25/09): It seems that like the recently ported Resident Evil 0, this will also remain a Japan-exclusive on the Wii for now.

At the moment, like Zero, this is Japan only. That could change but that's the current situation. In Japan, Zero sold well indicating that many people have never played the title and there is demand for it. This project is a reaction to the sale of Zero.

Following on from the release of Resident Evil Zero on Wii, Capcom will also be porting the next game in the storyline, the Gamecube remake of Resident Evil.

According to GoNintendo, revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu, the game will be almost an exact port of REmake, and will support the Gamecube controller. The main focus, like Zero, will be the new Wii Remote controls, one function that has been confirmed is Shaking the Wiimote to draw your gun.

Like Resident Evil Zero, this port is expected to stay in Japan, where it will be released on December 25th. Some are speculating that these re-releases are in preparation for a Resident Evil 2 Remake...

Eeeeeh... Nice I guess for some who haven't played the Cube version.

If they re-release RE2, I demand a full remake!! You can't just port a 10 year old N64 game. If you do, put it on WiiWare.

Fuxake Capcom. I think this is getting kinda ridiculous D:

How many times has that game been remade now anyway!?

Sweet. REmake is, in my opinion, the greatest of all the Resident Evil games. My order of preference s as follows:

REmake
RE2
RE: Director's Cut
RE: Code Veronica
RE4
RE3

Technically, RE2 is a PSone game (and the GC version was most certainly a direct port of the PSone "Dual Shock" version). But I guess I'm splitting hairs.

Ah, ok. Smilie But still, I don't want a port of a 10 year old PSX game. Either a full remake, or the N64 version on the Virtual Console.

Not that I will buy either of those by the way. Smilie

ROFL - how pointless. They should just port the whole freaking lot onto a single disc. Be done with it already!

i have the GC one so lol

Yay more money for Capcom.

The sad thing is that it'll still probably look better than most Wii games...

I am also for the release of a multi-game pack. I am pretty sure they could make a 2-disc set that includes all Resident Evil Games before RE4 for like $60.

As far as Resident Evil releases I am counting 5:
Playstation x2 (Original and Director's Cut)
Gamecube
Nintendo DS
Wii

This DOES point to a full RE2 Remake (the RE4 engine would be an obvious choice) since RE2 was absent from RE: UC.

Since 0 and 1 would be available already on Wii (along 4 and UC), a remake of RE2 and, if sales a great (which they will be in the 2 million totals) a RE3 remake would make financial sense for Capcom.

Now if the extra money from this and Megaman 9 can help them re-license with Disney a shot at releasing Rescue Rangers 1-2, Darkwing Duck, Spin tales, etc...

ugh not another 1 if their gonna stick a remake on the wii why dont they do 1 that hasnt been remade like 50 times >.<. Should remake ressi 2, 1 of my favourites Smilie

The sad thing is that it'll still probably look better than most Wii games...

And so it should, the environements are all prerendered after all. I think that it looks better than a lot of 360 games because of this.

-Have you any idea what it's like to be a Fembot living in a Manbot's Manputer's world?
-What?

They could put (the original version of) RE, RE2, RE3, and RE: Code Veronica onto a single DVD9, no problem at all. Even without compression/optimisation, just taking the old file-sizes into account. RE is around 500MB, RE2 was around 600MB per disc (of course, most of the content on both discs was identical). So that's around 1.7GB. I have no idea about RE3, so let's just assume that it's 700MB (which I highly doubt it is), which would bring our total up to 2.4GB.

Code Veronica came on two GD-ROMs. I'm clueless as to how much of each disc is used, so let's just say CV is 2GB altogether (which I highly doubt it is). That brings our highly-liberal estimate to a grand total of 4.4GB. This fits onto a single-layer 4.7GB DVD, with significant room to spare (hundreds of megabytes), more than enough for the required "Game Selection" menus and such. Maybe even some bonus extras.

If they wanted to use a dual-layer DVD9 (which actually hold 8.5GB), then they could easily also include RE4, no problem at all. RE4 came on two GC discs, which would make it a maximum of 3GB in size, which would bring our total up to 7.4GB.

RE
RE2
RE3
RE: Code Veronica
RE4

= 7.4GB, without any compression, and extremely liberal estimates of the actual size of RE3, Code V, and RE4. In short, they could easily fit the entire main series of Resident Evil onto a single DVD9, with some considerable room to spare.

Strictly speaking you mean "with the original compression", but apart from that your absolutely right.

People always underestimate just how much space we have these days.

In Japan, Zero sold well indicating that many people have never played the title and there is demand for it.

Does this make sense to any one? It SOLD well, indicating that there is a lot of gamers who have NOT played the game?!

So the game sold well, so that shows mnay never had the game?! Crazy logic!

I picked up REmake and Zero for the cube the other day and played through the blindin REmake. Why don't Capcom/Nintendo just release Wii compatibale double packs. ReMake/Zero one 1 disc and Wiimote/clasic compatibale. RE4 showed Resi demand, regardless of controls.
