Mario Power Tennis Slices onto Wii

By Jorge Ba-oh 28.10.2008 10

The GameCube Tennis sim featuring Mario and pals makes a welcome return on Wii.

As part of Nintendo's plans to re-release GameCube titles with Wii controls and possible other updates, it seems Mario's popular Tennis sim will be serving up a treat for US fans next February.

GoNintendo spotted the title in a retailer's release list, and if other titles are to go by, the game will presumably have support for Wii controls - allowing for some funky slices, serves and volleys using the Wii remote.

With a Wii specific Mario Tennis unannounced, hopefully this'll keep sports fans at bay till then, but where are the big name games, Nintendo?

For those that didn't dabble with Mario's balls in the last generation:

What...just make the new one instead! I can understand why Pikmin and Metroid are being remade because they could actually benefit from Wiimote controls AND also because they're both incredible games. Mario Power Tennis is not.

As if Mario tennis could not benefit from Wiimote controls? But it is odd its been ported, considering making a new one wouldn't be too demanding.

Lazyyyy bums.

Hopefully they change the music as well. God that was awful!

Don't think i'll bother - I bought that Sega Tennis game for Wii which plays pretty much the same as Mario Tennis - don't need another, thanks anyway Ninty.

Huzzah! At last! I was wondering when they were going to announce this gem's Wii-release. SmilieSmilie

Don't worry guys. This isn't a replacement. It's just a budget re-release. It's only a matter of time before Ninty announces the next official installment to the Mario Tennis (or Mario Golf for that matter) series. Which I can't wait.Smilie

Chance favors the prepared mind.

Nintendo can kiss my ass if they think I'm re-buying GameCube games.

Imho it doesn\'t make sense to re-buy these games. If you own them on Cube, then for Cube\'s sake just plug your Cube-controllers onto Wii and nejoy the game.
But it\'s a great opportunity for us Europeans to actually get our dirty old-world-claws on some games. Mario Power Tennis for example, is only available for full price, meaning you can\'t get it anywhere for under 50 EUR (45 at best!). So paying 30 bucks for it with (good!) Wii controls is okay. It would be most great (okay, that\'s no proper english, but you know what I mean!) to switch back to the old scheme with cube-controllers when I\'m in the mood. Because it isn\'t a problem to use Cubes controllers in Wii games as we all know.
I would therefore most likely buy this game.

/edit: This game itself is extremely good. It\'s camelot after all! And I played it a lot. Just not own it. Shame for me!

I find your lack of faith disturbing!
