Static Hub For Sonic Unleashed Wii, CGI Intro Video

A recent snippet from NGamer magazine reveals that the Wii version of Sonic Unleashed won't have a 3D hub.

Sonic Unleashed is set to have a 3D overworld, much like the original Sonic Adventure's city to explore, but it's looking likethe Wii version maybe a little skimped out of these basic features.

The levels are accessed from a hub town area, which is just a static screen where you can talk to a few characters. The Xbox 360 version has a 3D hub world eo explore, and we're not sure why it couldn't be done on the Wii too.

That's true. If it could be done back in the days of Sega's very own Dreamcast, then surely it could be done to a similar level on the Wii?

In related news, the game's introductory CGI sequence (which presumably will be the same in all versions) looks pretty spiffy:

Do you feel a hub would add or detract from the gameplay? How do you like accessing levels - By a menu or exploring an overworld to find each stage?

    the video was amazing..!
till the part he randomly turns into a WEARHOG ! which made it way too \"cool\" that i couldnt stand it anymore -.-\"

Edit :why did they have to add the wearhog? i mean come on look at how amazing it was in the beginning ! it puts pixar to shame ! they can make a sonic movie tbh !

Won't be watching the intro, since I want my purchase in two weeks to be as clear as possible. Smilie

Can't say I'm too bothered about the lack of a 3D hub, it certainly didn't hurt Sonic Adventure 2 and might have benefited Sonic 06.

I don\'t think a 3D hub would make a difference but tbh how can\'t it bit done on the Wii?

    Nice introduction to the game.

Bit odd having no 3D hub, but the intro is epic. Despite common sense I have high hopes for this one...

My hunch is still the game specialy for Wii...Dark Knight...will be much better then Unleashed.

Of course the Wii can do a 3D hub, they just arnt paying for it with this.

    As an Animator, I just have to say;
    No.
No No..No...you need your eyes examined..No.No.
    Get some decent taste...No...hell no...no...nope...absolutely not....No.

This is a "cool" animation, but it is not at pixar's level.
A Pixar animation in wireframe would be more expressive then this. Pixar could make a carboard box have emotion.

It's certainly a spiffy intro, though.

It doesn't have a hub because it doesn't need one.

Many fans think SA2 was the best 3D Sonic anyway, and then there's Secret Rings which didn't have one either.

There are others around. Fans had saved and reuploaded them all over the place incase SEGA reacted to the leaked gameplay (which they did)

I agree it doesn't really need one. The only reason they put it in Sonic Adventure because it was the first 3D Sonic game and it tied in the with the story.
But after that it was not nessercery. The game will might be just as good without it than having it.
