Japanese Hardware Chart | Sony Back On Top

Sony Dominate Once More in the Charts...
...But Will It Last For Long?

System | Weekly Sales | Total Year Sales

PlayStation 2 - 33,300 (1.91 Million)
GameBoy Advance SP - 32,300 (1.53 Million)
GameCube - 15,200 (450,000)
GameBoy Advance - 12,200 (1.01 Million)
PSOne - 760 (53,300)
XBOX - 490 (71,900)
WonderSwan Crystal - 480 (28,900)

So after a one week stint on the top of the charts, the Nintendo GBA: SP relinquishes its grip on the No.1 spot and Sony once more has a stranglehold over the hardware charts. Despite this, though, there was actually only 1,000 units difference between the systems with the PS2 selling just over 33,000 and the GBA: SP just over 32,000. Next week's figures will certainly be interesting to read! Elsewhere in the chart, it is extremely pleasing to see that the GameCube is at least prevailing in one market, as it steams ahead of the original GBA with sales of just over 15,000. The GBA is in fourth position with slightly over the 12,000 unit mark and then there is a huge gap before we reach the bottom three consoles. What is intriguing, and probably quite amusing to many a Nintendo fan, is that the XBOX barely sold more than the ailing WonderSwan Crystal! Microsoft's big black box sold a measly 490 units compared to the 480 of the WonderSwan system.
