Wii, Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo, Third Parties Recent News
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has returned to his old ways and is taking names with third parties who don't "get" the Wii.
The issue of hardcore is brought up in nearly every interview with the proud president, and Fils-Aime has given an honest answer to a large number of third parties producing shovelware, games will little to no effort and in some cases crap.
GamerTM reports that Nintendo's reason behind the infux of rubbish was due to some third parties not understanding the Wii, and what Nintendo are aiming to produce.
I will be able to say our licensees 'get it' when their very best content is on our platform. And with very few exceptions today, that's not the case.
Whilst that's entirely true for a fairly large percentage of the Wii's catalogue, Nintendo themselves have been quiet on the traditional gaming front this year, and for the forthcoming holiday season. 2009 has a decent enough range for the console, but there should be a lot more for those wanting more depth and quality in their gaming offerings.

He's totally right, of course. It's just that no-one wants the situation to get to a point where the highest executives need to say that.

I hope all the recent Nintendo games fail. Disaster, Wii Music, Animal Crossing. I hope they fail miserably and Nintendo will have to put some QUALITY into their games again. :-x

He'll say anything.

Disaster is a decent enough game, Wii Music is alright but really more of an interactive software than a game. Animal Crossing to me looks like one lazy-ass remake of the DS version with added (but limited) City stuff.
OK, the next Mario and Zelda are a year or more away but where's an F-Zero, StarFox, Donkey Kong for the Wii?

He's right but he's just repeating what we've all been saying.
And jb's right where are the new f-zero, starfox etc.

The Regginator's hit the nail on the head. He really needs to bust out his big ass, steel toe boots and kick these 3rd parties in the f***ing nuts!
If you can't tell already, I'm really angry with these companies. The ridiculous amount of crap titles their dumping on Wii (AKA most popular system, EVAR), and putting their AAA titles on 360 & PS3 (AKA most popular systems ever, not so much...) is an unbelievable, illogical atrocity to the gaming community.
Wii is a system with unprecedented potential. Which, unfortunately for us, is largely untapped by these companies. Little digs in their marketing like "Coming soon to current gen systems and Wii!" reveal the mindset these companies have. And with that kind of thinking, it's no wonder their sticking tons of shovelware on Wii and putting their best foot forward on the "current gen systems". Which, apparently, is based solely on processing speed and gfx capability.
"Cheap, half assed ports! Low budget, uninspired spinoffs! Poorly implemented motion controls! Sub-last gen graphics! Unnecessarily gimped Wi-Fi! Censored content! And loads of other sh*t all available here for you! On Wii!! Amazing!" - a truthful marketing campaign from anonymous 3rd party devs.

Three generations, one after another where 3rd parties are putting their money on/investing the most in the competitors platforms.
Maybe we should blame Nintendo instead of 3rd parties for this.
Just an idea.

I think he speaks the truth about Animal Crossing at least. He may not have played Wii Music and Disaster, and they may be seen as quality for some people, but Animal Crossing is a remake that was hyped as a full game. That is just inexcusable, lazy, and low quality.
Also, Wii Music hasn't been met nearly as favourably by critics as most of Nintendo's titles, so he's still right in a way.

Now that's not to say Ninty haven't made any mistakes. Far from it. But I believe they've hit the nail on the head with a system that truly is for everybody. Which includes us hardcore gamers. ;-
The problem is 3rd parties have chocked up Wii's success to the 'casual' audience (they've almost completely negated the thought of Wii having a legitimate hardcore fanbase) and they rate gen status solely on tech specs.
The system is very capable in the gfx department, but like anything else, it takes some actual effort to get results. For crying out loud, Wii is a ridiculously easy system to develop for AND it's based on already familiar architecture.
Money is the bottom line, and they're trying to maximize their profits on the "Wii craze" by dumping their low budget crap on the perceived unsuspecting audience.
Never before, has there been such an out of touch, ignorant consensus in the 3rd party community. Those bastards. lol( Edited 19.11.2008 23:33 by MechaG2 )

Fallout 3 - not possible on Wii
Mirror's Edge - not possible on Wii
Now fuck off.
I'm not saying that the third parties aren't to blame because they are with their shitty ports and their ridiculous Petz games...it's just that some games really just don't work on the Wii. Developers like to tell stories instead of gameplay and they can be more convincing with better machines and some developers just want better graphics. You can't blame them for that. Accept it.( Edited 20.11.2008 03:31 by tiamat1990 )
