Reggie Fils-Aime recently discussed Nintendo Wi-Fi, promising to deliver unique community approach.
Both the Wii and DS have a growing number of online capable games, and for the most part, it works. Players and hook up, play marches and in some titles hold personal records and chat to one another. But looking the system as a whole, and in comparison to Nintendo's competitors, it's a little here and there and some would say lacks the same community spirit.
Nintendo of America president already answered problems with third parties, and went on to address the online situation in a Forbes column.
Nintendo has always had a vision on community. The issue is that we define community differently than our competitors. Our consumers do want a sense of community, and we're going to deliver that - but in a way that is unique to Nintendo.
With friend codes and what some may consider over-the top privacy/parental controls, it's easy to imagine a more accessible and simpler way of playing online. With Nintendo promising that unique community approach, could an update to the Wii's current setup be on the way?

Don't you mean it's easy to imagine a more...?

The online experiance on the Wii being simpler would be better, take EA nation for example, it's like xbox live in alot of ways, but it's free.

Ya, amended.
They definitely need to fix the whole Wii online issue. It's good for a few games, but limiting when you have a whole load of Wi-fi compatible titles each having different features - e.g. some lacking voice chat, others using their own nickname system. It's appauling.

No Bart, I think it means Nintendo will be hesistant to actually make a proper community with all this paranoia.

Make your mind up
I don't see Nintendo making any positive changes to the paranoia, so it will be hard IMO

It's easy to imagine a better system than Nintendo's (Live, Netplay using emulators etc) - but hard to imagine Nintendo doing anything like that.
About to board my plane. Merry Christmas everyone!

Yeah how about you try to make it easy for us and abolish friend codes? How about you stop being so worried about children? I mean there ARE fucking parental controls such as a pin code ON THE GOD DAMN SYSTEM.

I.... THINK this is reassuring. As with most corporate-talk, it's just ambiguous enough that it could turn out to be good OR bad news.
