    Non Contact Wii Theremin Video

A Google user experience designer has created a neat Theremin simulator using a remote and Roland JV-1080 synth.

Ken More has taken his interest in creating sound and the Wii remote's wireless capabilities and has developed a neat way of replicating a theremin sounds on the computer. Theremins are electronic instruments that produce an eerie, paranormal sound featured prominently in cheesy sci-fi and horror flicks. There have been a few Wii-remote versions before, where you'd move it around to create sound, but none have mimicked the instrument's non-contact nature - where the distance of your hands to an antennae determines the sound.

More props up the remote, and using a pair of modded gloves (with LEDs poked through the finger tips) starts to wirelessly construct some neat sounding waves.

real theramins are sooooo much cooler (no joke)

I really do want a theramin, but this idea is not very good in my opinion.

How so? It's a decent idea, and if you've got the right programs, good to put into practice. There's some awesome theramins in other applications now, like built into guitars and the like. But for a simple way of mimicking the hand movement and getting some decent sound of it - I don't see what isn't so good about it.

This was a great idea. It's always interesting to see these cool uses for the Wii remote.
