Colin McRae Brings DiRT onto Wii/DS

Colin McRae is heading to DS and Wii with the sequel to the 2007 racing hit, DiRT.

The rally driving series continues with "roster of contemporary" off-road events, a touring mode featuring multi and solo car races in various exotic locations around the world. DiRT 2 promises better detailed and improved physics over Codemaster's recent racing success, Race Driver: GRID, including a collection of officially licensed cars and off-road vehicles.

Online play is said to be included, but whether either of Nintendo's platforms will receive it is uncertain, though shouldn't be ruled out just yet.

Codemasters has also confirmed the continuation of the franchise with Colin McRae as an honour to the legend after his death in the tragic helicopter accident in 2007.

Colin McRae was all about the speed, the excitement and the entertainment of rally driving. Even when we first worked with him over ten years ago, he captured a freedom and a spirit that enthralled rally fans. Later his showmanship shone through in events such as the X-games, the Dakar Rally and the Race of Champions. He could do things with a car that no one else would and that's where we're taking the series with new events at the extreme edge of rally and autosport. It will be a great tribute to an incredible champion.

Rally has attracted new stars and a new style that makes it more vibrant and exciting than ever before; it's right up there as a premium extreme sport, attracting fresh crowds and a new confident attitude.

Colin McRae: DiRT 2 mirrors this new, exciting direction and, in a way, we'll be throwing off some of the shackles and constraints that real-world rallying has to abide by. We're pitching players against the most spectacular and dangerous environments in the real world.

Gavin Raeburn, senior executive producer at Codemasters Studios.

The game is drifting onto various consoles next year, including Nintendo's own Wii and DS after missing out the original.

Following the fantastic job Firebrand Games did with Race Driver: Create and Race, Race Driver: GRiD and TrackMania all on DS, I can't wait for this! AND the company has already said it's working on Wii, so fingers crossed it's handling that version.

If you bothered to read the article, I did mention that. He (Codemasters) is bringing out the sequel in honour of what he brought to the sport/rally industry.

Yeah I read it. Smilie Admittedly, I did that after my post... but I figured I didn't have to change it, since it's a response to the title of the article. Myeah whatever. Smilie

I'm very interested seing a big game brought by a core company to Wii. Surely, it can go casual/graphic-vomit, but it also can turn out astounding. Vicarious Visions are my heroes at the moment together with High Voltage Software. I hope GH World Tour can hold to that promise. I hope CMR on Wii is one of the - all to few - games on Wii worth buying and with great graphics, too.
I find your lack of faith disturbing!

I'm worried as there's a PSP version which they maybe cheeky and "port" to the Wii. But Codemasters are an excellent dev, so hoping for good things from em!

It'll probably by the same game then. You can't expect devs to make 3 versions of games. Noone did it last gen, noone is ever going to do it.

He means 3 non-port games (3 completely ground up versions).

Awesome, might pick up the Wii copy, unless the DS version works nicely like mario-kart or more like asphalt
