Nintendo Strong in Japan with Animal Crossing Wii on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The Media Create charts have now been updated to include the latest data, showing just how well Animal Crossing Wii and Chrono Trigger DS have done following their strong first day figures. Animal Crossing may have only sold through just over 40% of its initial stock, but clearly Nintendo is pre-empting a massive burst of activity towards Christmas. Square Enix, on the other hand, seems to have pitched the level of Chrono Trigger just right, selling through nearly 70% of its initial stock and leaving room for a second strong week of ~100,000+ before pumping more into the market. The SNES original sold more than two million copies, whilst the PSone re-release did not fare anywhere near as well. This really impressive DS edition definitely deserves to at least pass the million mark before the year's end. On the hardware front, the DSi has stabilised somewhat around the 90,000 mark, whilst the DS Lite is boosted by extra stock and will likely continue to sell well until early next year thanks to the impending re-release of the GBA original edition of Rhythm Tengoku.

I'm surprised nintendo shipped so many ACs to the shops, even they could never have thought it would sell nearly 800000 in one week, glad to see Chrono Trigger is doing well.

Good to see Chrono Trigger doing great! However AC... bah stop selling damn it so Nintendo can learn to do something better then just port a DS/GC game with enhanced online capabilities. -_-

Good to see chrono trigger is where it belongs near the top XD as for animal crossing I will prolly end up buying it cause I sold my ds one and its basically a port of that just with a few extras.

Hey, I buy it because I want to; I really don't care if it's the same game. I like a fresh start every once in awhile, yet I would also be able to go back to the old town if I wished.

Win-win for me.

The former top user was Keven! You'd probably give birth to yourself 1000 times over until you sprout wings to fly away into the fading sun, that or you'd just turn into a lesbian. Who knows @_@ - L, 12/06/09

Little Big Planet at 39. I'm torn between wanting Sony to become malnourished and hungry this generation, and for an intriguing game to do really well. Think what you like, but LBP has been lovingly created and deserves to outsell all the monster-hunting, rhythm-bashing, identical sequels out there.

Just a question - how do the Rock Hero Band Tour IIIs do in Japan?

Less posty, more gamey.
