Star Wars Rebel Strike: Rogue Squadron 3
Can LucasArts and Factor 5 ‘use the force’ once more to guide them to success?

Game Data

The movies are legend, so it’s only right that some people go nuts over the games as well. If you do happen to be a die-hard fan, you’re lucky to own a GameCube, as the console has been blessed with many Star Wars titles so far. The Clone Wars, Bounty Hunter and the rather naff Jedi Knight 2 (port of the PC game) all come to mind. The best though, funnily enough is still the oldest of the group, the one which has been around since launch day, Rogue Squadron 2…

Now we already know what this is going to be about. Rogue Squadron games are about playing a part in famous Star Wars scenes, often saving entire races in the process, just like in the films. Rebel Strike certainly looks like Rogue Leader, so how exactly are Factor 5 going to make Rogue Squadron 3 even better?

As Rogue Leader hit the GameCube Factor 5 made a point about it being their first project working with the GameCube. They needn’t worry, as they still managed to get their first title for the console looking pretty damn amazing. The things you now need to know about graphical flair is that detail will be sharper, effects will be more common, and enemy ships will be more numerous. All the things you would expect from a typical update maybe, but given the visual quality of Rogue Leader, we’re excited about how this will look.

The main meat of the game, the flying sections, will remain similar to the airborne battles in the prequel. The noticable gameplay feature is the on foot sections. Most of the screens showing this off seem to be on the moon of Endor, but we’re confident there are plenty of these sections for you to get stuck into. The idea of most of these sections is to get yourself through a guarded area to another ship, opening the door for the next bit of high flying fun.

Responding to earlier complaints about Rogue Squadron 2, the developers have included a bonus disk featuring a full game cooperative mode, and many, many more missions for us to work our way through. Isn’t that kind of them? With this in mind, Rebel Strike is shaping up nicely, and should make a very welcome Christmas present. Damn it, as if there aren’t already enough top titles coming out between now and the new year…
