Marvelous Reveals Nintendo DS/Wii Sales & Forecasts on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Marvelous Entertainment has revealed its projected sales for upcoming releases on both the DS and Wii, as well as updating the shipment figure of Luminous Arc 2: Will for DS. The sequel to the imageepoch-developed Strategy RPG Cubed3 enjoyed so much has so far shipped a decent 86,000 units, 70,000 of which came in the first half of the fiscal year.

As for the project sales across the remainder of the financial year, ending 31st March, 2009, check out all the details below:

Japan

  • Harvest Moon WakuWaku Animal March (Wii) - Starting shipment: 43,000, financial year forecast: 50,000
  • Avalon Code (DS) - Starting shipment: 74,000, financial year forecast: 85,000 (up from the original projected sales of 56,000)
  • Akagawa Jirou Mystery (DS) - Starting shipment: 23,000, financial year forecast: 29,000
  • Hitman Reborn (Wii) - Starting shipment: 17,000, financial year forecast: 19,000
  • Rune Factory Frontier (Wii) - Starting retail pre-orders were 45,000 at the time when this statement was released. Now it is known the game has sold 18,000 on its first day alone. The financial year forecast is 55,000
  • Harvest Moon DS 3: Welcome to the Wind Bazaar (DS) - Starting retail pre-orders: 120,000, financial year forecast: 170,000
  • Oboro Muramasa Youtouden (Wii) - Its previous forecast was 56,000, but this has been reduced due to Third Party sales on Wii in Japan being very disappointing recently, so provisions are being reconsidered.

Europe

  • Harvest Moon DS 2: Island of Happiness (DS) - Starting retail pre-orders: 130,000, reducing the financial year forecast from 450,000 to 250,000
  • Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon (DS) - Financial year forecast has been bumped down from 80,000 to 60,000
  • Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility (Wii) - Financial year forecast: 220,000
  • Little King's Story (Wii) - Financial year forecast has been bumped up from 124,000 to 125,000

North America

  • Avalon Code (DS) - Financial year forecast: 40,000
  • Rune Factory Frontier (Wii) - Financial year forecast: 100,000
  • Little King's Story (Wii) - Financial year forecast up from 120,000 to 150,000
And there you have it, clearly Rune Factory DS in Europe has been hampered by its severe delays, interest could be on the wane for Harvest Moon on DS and Marvelous has much more faith in the CING/TownFactory/Marvelous joint venture 'Little King's Story', possibly after seeing just how well Square Enix's similarly-themed Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King did on WiiWare earlier this year.

In the same period, it has been revealed that despite releasing no new titles, existing Wii games in Japan sold 1,000 units, whilst 184,000 DS games were sold from the eight new releases over the period. In Europe there were two Wii and two DS games released, with the Wii ones selling 60,000 and the DS 86,000. Marvelous Entertainment USA was only officially set-up in November, so the reporting period shows no titles released for the American market.

In terms of forecasting for the rest of the fiscal year, in Japan there will be four Wii games released, with the aim of selling 150,000 units between them, whilst the company is expecting half a million sales from its upcoming twelve DS titles. In the US there are hopes of 250,000 sales from just two games, and 40,000 from one solitary DS title.

The biggest surprise is what Marvelous is expecting from Rising Star Games' four Wii and twelve DS releases, with 400,000 units from the Wii and 560,000 from the DS games.

I've added a few more details to the original story. It now shows how much has been sold across DS and Wii in general, as well as what is expected for the rest of the FY2008.
