Reports from Japan suggest Nintendo may consider changing the supplier of the accelerometer chips inside the Wii Remote.
STMicroelectronics currently supply Nintendo with a bundle of chips that allow the remote to calculate different motion in 3D space. The $3 sensors inside the Wii's main input allow the console to receive data on small wrist action or big, bold arm movements.
Wired's Gadget Lab reports that Nintendo is looking to improve the efficiency and sensitivity of the controller, and are looking into alternative supplies from companies such as Kionix Inc, and Tronics. This remains separate from the company's forthcoming MotionPlus attachment; that adds extra sensitivity and rotation by aid of a gyroscope.
In related remote news, the US Patent and Trademark office has suspended Nintendo's application to trademark the term "Wii Remote", due to the word remote being far too common to be put forward into trademark. It may, however still be possible - providing Nintendo disclaims ownership of remote except when used together with Wii.

Exactly, everybody uses 'Wiimote' anyway.
I wonder if they'll make nunchucks with WiiMotionPlus built in...

Not really.
This is more like a slight upgrade, much like what happened to the wavebird.
It wont make anything outdated as such.

Wiimote would do fine. Everyone I know personally with a Wii has been calling them that since the console's release including myself. Wii Remote is as dull as their Grey logo

I guess I'm the only one on here that calls them 'Wii Remotes'
Surely Nintendo was going for the term 'Wii Remote' when applying for the patent as apposed to the words seperately?

they can't patent/tradmark (wiimote), a name that have already been used by majority of people.

Patents are a funny thing
Mainly because they sound like pants
And I don't like to wear pants.

Seriously though, why not trademark "Wiimote"?
Most people call it that anyway
Remote is generic for any remote though, Wiimote could only refer to the wonderful wand we wave to play games
So they still could trademark it, despite people using the term all the time
