US WW/VC: Puzzler, Hockey, Sonic on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

This week's WiiWare and Virtual Console releases in the US include an action puzzler, hockey and classic Sonic.

It's quite a mild week for Wii game downloaders in the US, with two WiiWare releases - the first, Bruiser and Scratch, being a quirk puzzle game following two friends lost in a strange world and to escape they'll need to solve oversized puzzles. Next up is the exciting Hockey Allstar Shootout - where you're pitted against "The best goalies" in the world and need to use a Wii remote as a virtual hockey stick. Last up on the list is the slightly mediocre take on Sonic the Hedgehog with the stripped-down version of the blue wonder's second Mega Drive platformer for the Master System.

  • Bruiser and Scratch - Steel Penny Games, 1 player, 1000 Wii Points
  • Hockey Allstar Shootout - Big Blue Bubble, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points
  • Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Sega Master System, 1 player, 500 Wii Points

    Sounds pretty crappy.

Hoping for Sonic 2 to be on our VC lineup this friday. Smilie

I still think getting them this way is a complete rip off when this version of Sonic 2 is on Sonic Gems Collection and Sonic Adventure DX along with loads of other GG/MS Sonic games.

Well, you don't have to buy them, do you?

I haven't bought a single VC game yet. I have most classics on cartridge and I still play those from time to time. And if there are classics I missed, I still prefer to find them on cartridge, so I can always resell them.

The only game that tempts me is Super Mario World. It's a nice game to have close.

I've got both the above but hate the GG version. The SMS version has better placed emeralds, the music in some places, (like the opening movie) is better and it isn't zoomed in like the GG version which really doesn't work in Sonic game. It makes dodging falls and enemies frustrating since they appear on screen right next to you giving you hardly any time to react.

Worth £3.50 in my eyes. Smilie
