The classic Broken Sword will be heading to Wii and DS next year, with more than just control revisions.
The first in the series of adventure games has been translated to both of Nintendo's platforms, and the Director's Cut version includes "new and explosive" narrative that's been incorporated into the original story, new console-specific puzzles that utilise the Wii Remote and DS touch screen. Animation fans will enjoy facial expressions drawn by Dave Gibbons - the artist behind the comic and forthcoming film, Watchmen.
The original game was released back in 1996 for the PC, and has since seen a version for PlayStation and GameBoy Advance in 2002. We follow an American tourist on holiday in Paris - George Stobbart. Whilst sipping a coffee in a café a bomb planted by a clown is set off, and Stobbart sets off on an investigation leading him into a world of conspiracy and murder.
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - The Director's Cut is scheduled to arrive on Wii and Nintendo DS in March 2009.
These new platforms and their innovative controls enabled us to translate and enrich the point-and-click gaming experience in a way that no other console allowed before. Through Dave's animated faces, the game's characters are portrayed as empathetic and emotional - driving the narrative in a way that has never been done before in an adventure game. The Director's Cut has allowed me to deliver my true vision for the series. The Director's Cut features elements that enhance the original puzzles and storyline, which helps explain what happened prior to the start of the original game, and how it ties to later games in the series.
