Nintendo DSi Passes Million in 2 Months

Famitsu and Enterbrain have revealed that Nintendo's new DSi model has now surpassed sales of one million in just two months despite initial doubters believing that the third revision of the DS hardware would be dismissed by the masses for excluding the GBA slot and adding what some deemed 'pointless' additions such as the two cameras and media playback features.

Since launching back on 1st November in Japan, the Nintendo DSi's sales are roughly 1,062,416 units as of 21st December. For reference purposes, the original Nintendo DS, which was released on 2nd December back in 2004 has sold 6,449,206 units, whilst the Nintendo DS Lite, which hit on 2nd March, 2006 has cruised to phenomenal sales of 17,348,252 units. This brings the total DS family sales to an astonishing 24,859,874 with the biggest sales weeks yet to come in the Land of the Rising Sun.

No wonder Nintendo is delaying the release of the DSi in the US and Europe until around Autumn 2009, since all stock needs to be pumped into Japan right now where the DS Lite had started to slow down slightly, slipped behind the revived PlayStation Portable, which had been boosted by the likes of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Monster Hunter Portable 2G and the updated PSP-2000 and PSP-3000 models.

Wow, Nintendo completely dominates the handhelds. I think I might purchase a DSi but most likely a couple months after the release. Looks decent.

I Wont, does anybody actually take their portables out with them? Camera..whats the point? Who's gonna use the DS for taking pictures, they'd look like a complete cunt. Especially when mobile phones have got it sewn up. 1million, very impressive. Personally feel its undeserved but congratulations to them anyway

Even with all the new features, I won't be getting one because I don't need one. But still that's quite phenomenal 1m in two months.

Hope it does well in the future to come.

Put it into perspective as well - the third gen GBA, the Game Boy micro, only sold about 500,000 lifetime! Smilie

Quite impressive that the 3rd revision of the same hardware is still selling strongly. I won't be getting one though. Quite happy with my DSL.

If there is only one reason that I would get a DSi, it would be the new "flatter" buttons. The DS Lite just has an awful D-Pad; you have to freakin' press it will all your strengt to make anything happen. The old DS's buttons were the best.
