Nintendo Beaten by Final Fantasy PSP in Japan on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

This week's Media Create Top 50 chart shows Nintendo is kept off the top spot by Square Enix's latest PSP release, the highly anticipated melee brawler 'Dissidia: Final Fantasy', whilst Gundam Musou 2 on PS3 lands at No.2, just ahead of a resurgent Kirby on DS and Animal Crossing at No.4 on Wii. No.5 sees a New Entry for Tales of Hearts' anime edition, whilst its CG counterpart can only limp in at No.39 with just under 17,000 units. In total this is a far strong start than both Tales of the Tempest (83,298 first week, 205,541 lifetime) and Tales of Innocence (106,733 first week, 210,697 lifetime). According to Japanese blogger sinobi, 200,000 units of the anime version were shipped to retail, whilst 50,000 of the CG version were shipped out. In total Bandai Namco has previously stated it expects a lifetime sales total of 400,000 units before the end of this fiscal year (31st March).

Elsewhere, Girl's Mode is turning from sleeper hit into potential future million-seller candidate as it moves to No.6 with nearly 100,000 sales this week, Taiko no Tatsujin on Wii is nearly at the 200,000 mark in just its second week (BanNam expects 400,000 unit sales in total!), Konami's Suikoden spin-off 'Suikoden Tierkreis' enters at No.16, performing stronger than any other spin-off from the RPG series, Hudson's karaoke title 'JOYSOUND' marks a strong début at No.12 with around 73,000 sales (considering the online fees for new songs as well this looks to be a major money-spinner!) and Ragnarok Online DS impresses, landing at No.22 after starting with first day sales of 28,000 units.

Check out the list below, as well as the hardware tallies that show the DSi still beat the PSP despite the release of Dissidia, whilst Wii gets a timely boost due to the shopping season:

Please learn from this, Namco. Tales is not Final Fantasy. That is why it is so good.

Problem with the Anime version though is that half the characters look identical to the characters from TalesOfSymphonia.

Agreed with Darkflame. Sometimes Tales characters look so soul-less when in Anime form.

Sales aren\'t a surprise, obv. Dissidia would be up there kick major ass, being one of the PSP\'s most anticipated games \'n\' all.

Anyone spotted how Inazuma Eleven is still lingering around? This is such a strong week, selling not much lower than ~27,000. That's pretty amazing after such a long time of release. Clearly the anime show's helping and good word-of-mouth must be doing something as well since it's a damn great game. Really hope it gets released over here!

Haven't played a Tales game personally, but given the option I would take CG over anime. Everything is anime these days.
