Nintendo Detail Wii Video Channel, May Head to the West

Nintendo has revealed few tidbits of information on the new video download service heading to Japan land, "Wii no Ma Channel."

The channel will be free to download from Spring 2009 as a joint project between Nintendo and content provider Dentsu. Details into what can be watched are a little sketchy, but it's being pitched as a "family friendly" service. Shows will be free to air, but the pair are hoping to bring in paid material sometime during Summer 2009.

A video experience space where you can enjoy communication when gathered with your friends and family in front of your living room television.

Nintendo has also confirmed reports that the service may expand overseas, but due to a range of issues - mainly licensing and finding content providers - it's still being looked into, but a strong possibility nonetheless.

Could be good, depending on content.

Broadcast tv is dieing a slow death, and cheap internet access devices like the Wii are perfect as IPTV systems.

Well, here's another channel the Japanese way we're gonna get and probably won't.
Is it me or has that been a pattern recently?
Japan has maybe a page and a quarter of channels that aren't VC games or channels from games
We have, if you include the Wii Speak Channel, 3 rows and 3/4
Not even a full page yet
At least in America
I don't remember if Europe got anymore channels

I think there's a strong chance Nintendo will partner up with providers in the West and get something out there, hopefully updatable with more channels as time goes on. With the Wii in place as a family machine in the living room, it's definitely an opportunity not to miss.

could be a really good channel, i hope the content's good, I like the Idea of an anime channel, for somereason the one on sky seems to have disappeared.
