Mario Kart, Wii Fit, Wii Play top UK 2008 Chart

The top 10 best sellers in 2008 in the UK are out, and there are no surprises: Mario Kart and Wii Fit coming top.

Mario Kart has had a steady lead since taking to the tracks at the begging of April, followed closely 2 more Wii companions, Wii Fit and Wii Play - the latter most likely due to extra remote pick up.

Dr Kawashima can party down like it's 2009 given his incredible performance last year despite launching back in 2006. With the growing presence of his virtual head in non-traditional outlets like bookstores, it's likely we'll continue to see Brain Training in the charts this year. Tagging closely behind the Doctor is Sonic and Mario's first collaboration, and the fantastic next-generation GTA. The incredibly popular Call of Duty: World at War makes a firm stand for the hardcore, and then to top it all off there's the lol-worthy Carnival Funfair in 9th place.

    Super Smash Bros. Brawl, anyone?

    1. Mario Kart Wii
    2. Wii Fit
    3. Wii Play
    4. Dr Kawashima's Brain Training
    5. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii)
    6. GTA IV (360)
    7. GTA IV (PS3)
    8. Call of Duty: World at War (360)
    9. Carnival Funfair (Wii)
    10. FIFA 09 (360)

I wonder if the GTA IVs combined sold more than MKWii.
    Ah, VGChartz says it didn't. MKWii: 13.9 million. GTA IV: 12.0 million (360: 6.7; PS3: 5.3).
(Woops, this is worldwide data. Because GTA isn't Big In Japan, I expect that in the UK GTA sold more than MK.)

And yeah, SSBB should have been in there.

Maybe a lot of people in the UK imported Smash Bros? I know a few who couldn't wait for the UK release.

Glad to see Mario Kart above Wii Fit and brain Training. Smilie

You do know that VGChartz just makes numbers up, right? They use 'educated' guess work and make money from it...I don't follow the owner's method at all.

Smash Bros. dropped pretty quickly compared to other games this year, so I'm not surprised. It's really more of a front-loaded title, unlike Wii Fit, Wii Play, Brain Training and Carnival Games, all of which fall into this new category of 'evergreen' sellers.

    To all you americans out there, I have a message;

Never... EVER... come to the UK. Under any circunstance, don\'t even come here on holiday.

I have had the misfortune of living in this country for my entire life, and let me tell you... there is no redeeming feature about this country. The only upside to living here is, when you come to your senses and emigrate, your money is worth more.

The people here are rude, unfriendly and moronic. The climate here is miserable, summer here lasts about 10 days. The culture here is utterly retarded. The education system is laughable, hounestly it is no wonder the people here are so unintelligent. The cost of living here is absolutely absurd, do you know how much we pay for new video games over here? $75 at the moment due to the economic recession, a few months ago it was over $90.

I hope none of you are ever unfortuanate enough to find yourselves here. I am emigrating in a couple of years... and never looking back.

I am not even surprised by this disgraceful list.

Despite the Carnival Funfair *shudders* it's a pretty good list, I guess it was to be expected that MKWii topped it.

    @ Slydevil

You don't live in the UK do you?
I appologize if I come accross a bit harsh, but living here really enfuriates me sometimes.

Also, do actually know what a troll is...? It has become far too common practise to just pass off anyone with a strong oppinion as a troll.

I've lived in the UK all my life and can't imagine living elsewhere. Sure we have a downside to our society but the same can be said about most places.

I guess people have the own opinions but it really isn't as bad as you're saying.

Saying you don't like a place is ok but calling everyone here stupid and retarded is just rude and insulting. The education in most schools is excellent, easily matching that of other countrys. Yes, there's the odd area where society hating chavs hang out but it really is a nice place.

Not trying to be rude (I know it\'s going to come across as it anyway) but honestly every English born child that I know can\'t read well (actually when they read they sound like a retared 4 year old vietnamese girl)especially when compared to Irish children their own age. I dunno if it\'s just them or it\'s the English schools fault but thats the way it is.

It may just be that they suck at reading out loud. I'm a good reader and all, but when it comes to reading out loud, I suck it up like none other. ;-Smilie

Dude, CTFO. Just because you hate a country doesn't mean others don't. It really all a matter of opinion. I would love to visit the UK some day. It gets boring just staying in one place your whole life.

*lol* come to Germany. We only speak funny english and have a summer of 12 days. Do we have a deal?

Honestly. You don\'t expect other countries to be better? I know a few Germans who can read and it may be, that sometimes in Australia games are a bit cheaper as in the UK.
That\'s Europe. Games here are as expensive as USD turned into EUR. so a 50 USD-game costs actually 50 EUR, which is 70 USD. Roughly.
