Free Radical's Fate to be Decided this Week

By Jorge Ba-oh 02.02.2009 9

Free Radical

The fate of TimeSplitters developer Free Radical Design will be announced publicly on Wednesday February 4th 2009.

The developer went into administration towards the end of the year, bringing the total staff number to a lowly 40 members. Fortunately there has been "very strong interest" in the company, says ReSolve Partners. According to GamesIndustry.biz, the administrator hopes to be able to sell Free Radical as a whole, but is prepared to split rights to technology, IPs and other assets.

Codemasters and Monumental Games have expressed interest, and there's also been whisperings from outside the industry, but their fate is still uncertain at this time. Whatever happens, all the best to those working for Free Radical - we hope things go well during this chilly time.

Please be saved/merged anything to get out their excellent games. Really need Battlefront 3 and more importantly, timesplitters 4 ^^

Haze was a shocker of a game.

Rebellion Developments are making it now, and a good thing to on the evidence of their last game Haze.

I never thought Free Radical ever really did anything that great, so I\'m not fussed what happens to them. Haven\'t the vast majority of them left now, anyway?

I\'m confuzzled. Do you mean that it\'s a good thing that Rebellion are now making Timesplitters, because Haze was shit? Haze was shit, to be fair.

I don't care anymore about them since we know that they won't be releasing Time Splitters 4 for Wii.

They're facing a financial crisis and decide to continue development on the more expensive platforms.

Strange logic ...

Well, here's hoping. *crosses fingers* I wish them the best.

Never played Haze, myself. I hear two sides to the story, but I know for certain that FR is a top ace quality company, and I was SUPER excited about them being tapped for BFIII. And after seeing the leaked BFIII footage, I just about shit my pants. lol Mind blowing stuff. Also, I just gotta have my TS4 fix.

Rebellion, on the other hand, is sh*t. They can't seem to make a great game to save their life. *sigh* I'm reeeeaaaally *insert groan* not happy about them being the ones to take over the BF franchise. LucasArts might as well give it back to Pandemic. *sigh* Of course, LA can't seem to do anything worth while as of late either. And forget about them giving any luv'n to Ninty fans. Bastards.

I want to know whats happening with Factor 5, damnit. I NEED my Rogue Squadron fix. lol

Chance favors the prepared mind.

agreed!

Timespliters 2 was blindin. Though future perfect was a bit wide of the mark though.

NOOOOO!!!

The footage of Free Radial's Battlefront 3 was awesome!

What are Lucas Arts doing. The Battlefront series is the best selling, most successful Star Wars franchise out there. In fact Battlefront 2 is the 2nd most played Xbox Original on Live. Lucas Arts could save Free Radical by giving them a load of money. And they would get more then their money back with the inevitable success of the game. They could even publish Timesplitters 4 to make even more money. Cos i think we all know thats what they're really interested in. If they care about the Battlefront fans half as much as they do about making money they would do this.

I wouldn't want to see Free Radicals Battlefront 3 in the hands of any other dev. Rebellion are pretty mediocre. And Pandemic's LotR: Conquest was... well... crap.

I guess this all comes down to Karma doesn't it. Everyone gave Haze bad reviews, and now we won't get Battlefront 3 and Timesplitters 4. Smilie

Yeah, no guff. My jaw hit the floor after seeing the footage. It was absolutely mind blowing.

Ironically, it's being reported that LucasArts, in all their freak'n wisdom, has decided it necessary to cut BFIII's budget as well as certain gameplay features.:-x In other words, once again, players will NOT be getting the version of BF they see before it's release, i.e. we get stuck with another half completed, shit version. God forbid LucasArts does anything right these days. And dammit, Rebellion is taking the helm? They're just as bad, if not worse, than Pandemic.:-x
